  • Has your toddler ever used the potty the FIRST time you put him on it? Any potty training tips?

Mine did today. It was a happy accident - put it on him for the first time to see if he liked it and get him used to it. He got up after less than a minute, and I thought, "Oh well, that's how it goes." I then changed his diaper, and when I looked back, saw he'd actually pooped in it!! (: Guess he's comfortable with it, and probably more ready than I thought to try it, though no formal potty training for a while unless he forces the issue - he's only 16 months old.

Any other fun potty training stories and/or tips? (:

  • Is there any way to get CPS to divulge who *didn't* report a Mom to them?

My husby's ex just chewed him out tonight when he picked up the boys for Halloween. Seems she got reported to CPS (Child Protective Services) by someone unknown to us (we checked with family) for letting the boys run wild (unsupervised) and one of the boys throwing a trumpet out her home's window, etc. She blamed him and alternately me. It wasn't us. This may well make a bad situation with her worse - there's no way she'll believe it wasn't us unless CPS tells her it wasn't. Is there any way to get CPS to divulge that it was *not* us who called? Or anything else someone can suggest? She told my husby CPS would be talking to him too. Should we worry about this? Did she report him in "revenge" or is this standard for CPS to talk to the non-custodial parent?

My husby is going to call his lawyer in the morning. Was just curious if anyone had a possible solution other than the tried and true "let time pass" which I doubt will help in this instance based on his ex's past behavior.

  • What's your reaction to this poem I just wrote about love & relationships?

    Leggo O' My LegoMobile II

The lone hand aligned the two lost worlds with the rest of the universe...

    Drivin' along in my legomobile

A globe was suddenly tossed beneath the wheel

I whipped my head around but no it wasn't Augustus

Who's to say whether it was one man's justice?

The soothing hand dropped the thing from another world into my path...

    Drivin' along in my legomobile

Once more on a pretty even keel

I was startled, I must admit

It caused me stop and ponder for quite a bit.

The counseling hand made a double crossbones sign just in front of me...

    Drivin' along in my legomobile

I slammed to a stop with a great squeal

My chosen path not the right one it seems

I reversed and chose instead the path of my dreams.

The indifferent hand taught me something about them, I think...

    Drivin' along in my legomobile

It felt like my heart did an aerial cartwheel

Along with the music I was listening to

As I paid attention to life's lessons, old and new.

The aggressive hand said via thought bubble, "Gun the man down" in glow-in-the-dark terms...

    Drivin' along in my legomobile

Somethin' stuck in the engine flywheel

I could go no further without some help

Definitely aggravating enough for a strong yelp.

The taxidermist hand led me to an unmarked grave...

    Drivin' along in my legomobile

Fixed by someone with negative sex appeal

I was diverted to a path I'd definitely not chosen

But one I have to admit, after the shock, was ambrosian.

The sarcastic hand yelled, "For the love of money don't let this one get away, silly!"...

    Drivin' along in my legomobile

Guided by the thoughts after dark I definitely feel

I couldn't stop but had an epiphany

Kinda hard not to pay attention to such a litany.

The final hand was blown away by the storm...

    Drivin' along in my legomobile

I saw it all clearly, kissed with a seal

Through the lightning flashing all around

I clearly chose not to run aground.

Whether the planets remain aligned is anyone's guess

Separate they might just make a mess

    If there's one thing I know it's that I have a choice

But sometimes it takes input from others to hear my voice.

This time I'm gonna build my own legomobile

I'm gonna stay behind the wheel

    Whatever comes, joy or sorrow

I will keep building and learning, each day, each tomorrow.

  • Was this enough of a consequence for hitting a female classmate and chipping her tooth?

Asking in Polls and Parenting both, because want both general and parent-specific information.

A couple weeks ago, my 13 year old stepson sat in a different chair in band (no assigned seats but places where they generally sit). A girl said, "Hey, that's my seat!" and pulled the chair out from under him. He picked up his trumpet case and hit her with it, chipping a tooth.

School consequence: Pulled from band and put in study hall for rest of semester. May, or may not, be allowed back into band next semester (he is upset enough about this to refuse to talk about it).

Bio mom consequence: Grounded to his room for one week with no TV, computer time, or reading. Allowed to sit, stand or lie down in room (no toys or books in room; "empty" room) or come out and do chores for Mom instead.

  • What story/poem will you create with these lyrics?

    NO, this is not homework.

Please do NOT use in order given (or recombine into a story with nothing added), as that would plagiarize his song.

Please include at least 7 of the following (all are lyrics from Chris Isaaks' "Wicked Game"):

    - The world was on fire and no one could save me but you.

    - It's strange what desire will make foolish people do.

    - I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you.

    - And I never dreamed that I knew somebody like you.

    - No, I don't want to fall in love.

    - This world is only gonna break your heart

    - No, I don't want to fall in love with you.

    - What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way.

    - What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you.

    - What a wicked thing to say, you never felt this way.

    - What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you and,

    - I want to fall in love.

  • Parents: If your toddler bit you and head-banged you, what would/did you do in response?

My 16 mo. old in the past four days (since visit with older step-bros) has been head-banging me quite hard and without warning turning kisses into bites. This is normally when I have told him "No, not for babies" and removed him/distracted him, or when he is frustrated I will not continue something he wants to do (for example, holding his hands and letting him turn himself upside down and I have stopped before my arms give out, he falls and is hurt). So I get that this is somewhat normal, but very tricky for me - I both want to "ignore" his screaming tantrums and this behavior, teach him not to do this, and acknowledge his feelings/comfort him. He is very single-minded in this, not stopping even with distraction/removal across the room from me. My husby says to put him in his crib for a few minutes, so we both have time away and he cannot continue the cycle of hurting me. What do you think, and what did/would you do in this situation? Thanks!
