Has your toddler ever used the potty the FIRST time you put him on it? Any potty training tips?

Mine did today. It was a happy accident - put it on him for the first time to see if he liked it and get him used to it. He got up after less than a minute, and I thought, "Oh well, that's how it goes." I then changed his diaper, and when I looked back, saw he'd actually pooped in it!! (: Guess he's comfortable with it, and probably more ready than I thought to try it, though no formal potty training for a while unless he forces the issue - he's only 16 months old.

Any other fun potty training stories and/or tips? (:

At 23 months I put my daughter on the potty and let her watch Elmo's Potty Time for the first time. About half way through it she peed! Success! Or so I thought......

She is totally unconcerned about wet diapers, and sometimes doesn't even care if her diaper is poopy. If I put her on the potty, she usually pees in it (eventually) but she's never pooped. For now, the potty is just another toy she's playing with. Even though she just turned 2, I think she's still too young. I'm going to try "serious" potty training after the excitement of the holidays is over! I don't want to be chained to the house (and the little potty) right now, and neither does she!

As far as potty training tips....wait until you toddler can pull his/her own pants down and can realize the urge to go. Otherwise, you aren't potty training your kid, your potty training yourself to undress them and put them on the toilet at certain times of the day waiting for the magic to happen. :)

When a friend of mine recommended a potty training step stool, I was skeptical it would make a difference. I could not believe my kids reaction to The Potty Stool http://www.thepottystool.com/ I started by just setting it at the toilet. This stool makes every toilet kid-sized. My kids immediately climbed up on this stool and discovered that they could safely and securely use the toilet. This got them very interested in using the toilet and they were potty trained very quickly. My kids like to use what they know mommy and daddy use. And it really is wonderful having your kids independently use the toilet on their own. The handles make all the difference --both felt comfortable and were relaxed enough to have easy bowel movements. Plus for my son, it really did help for him to learn standing up. He could see what was happening and connect the sensations.

I like that I don't have to double the steps of potty training by training them first in a potty and then training them to stop using a potty. And not dumping and cleaning a potty each time is great. The best thing is that kids use it for years. I hope this helps you

When my son was 18 months, he said "pee-pee" & pointed to the bathroom. I sat him on the toilet & he peed. I was amazed~ I knew it was time to start potty training!

My son is now 19 months & still being potty trained:)

At least he's not a big-time diaper artist.
