  • How do you decide where to intern a body, especially with family troubles?

I have been harassed repeatedly since my fathers death. I don't get condolences, I get demands and demeaned. I have had things from an uncle claiming I have no right to my father's estate or body (it all belongs to them) to lying about the requirements of their religion to manipulate me to change things (not only did my father no long believe in Catholicism, he was upset at times that I went to a Catholic School - because they had the program I wanted; having studied the religion in school for over a decade, something seemed wrong with their "rules," so I called up my friends like the deacon and a religious studies teacher, who all confirmed these rules actually contravened things).

I thought things had calmed down. They have but this latest thing is bringing everything up again: now family members are claiming I wanted certain dates for the internment, dates that fit their own schedules, when I have repeatedly said I don't care (I'm probably not even going because I need to keep my distance from them). I am just being used all over again.

My Dad had said he wanted to be in the family plot, but that was over a decade ago and his relationship with his family had only gotten worse. I get sick to my stomach thinking of him spending eternity with them. However, he said he wanted it and I may be prejudice because of how they are bullying me. I can't decide if I should give them his ashes or tell them to get lost and bury him elsewhere. Help!

  • How to send Thank You cards with no addresses?

My father died recently. I know the etiquette is to send a thank you card to everyone who attended the funeral. I bought the cards to do so...

The reality is that I didn't know the people who showed up. In the guest book, everyone signs with their signature which is not legible and no one leaves addresses. Even the few cards I received at the funeral, there were no legible names and certainly no identifying locations.

How do I send thank you cards to people I cannot identify?

  • Addressing "Thank You for Sympathy" card to corporation?

My father died in a business, a large national chain. The VP of the chain contacted me to offer their condolences. I mentioned my family and I were planning on finishing the activity in his honour, among other things in our conversation.

Today, I received two pieces of mail: one, the chain sent my family gift certificates so we could perform the activity in his honour; the second, they made a donation in my father's honour to the charity listed in the death notice.

Before anyone suggests this, I see nothing but kindness in this gesture: the business had no wrongdoing in my father's death, I think our conversation made it clear I had no ill-will or any thoughts of legal action, and we Canadians are just plain nice people who do things for each other.

How do I address the thank you card? Do I address it directly to the VP? To the chain? To the VP on behalf of the chain?

    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Roman Catholic Beliefs surrounding funerals and internment?

My father died recently. He was estranged from a significant portion of his family, and not well-connected to to the others (he maintained two telephone numbers so he could avoid them). They were all strangers to me until I reached out to inform them of his death.

His family is Catholic, some currently practicing, some lapsed. My father was very anti-religion (was not too fond of my beliefs) so I chose to honour that by not having a religious service. His family want him interred in the family plot, which is consecrated ground. At first, I had no objection.

When they demanded I moved the service to fit their schedules, as they could not take another day off work for the internment, I said I would but it would take two days to arrange. Before my deadline, I started hearing that they wanted to split the ashes for their own service and not even see me, they were going to just take the ashes from me because I had no right to them, and they tried to blackmail me, saying if I didn't change it, they were going to send me bills. WTF?

Now they claim Catholics require the remains be interred in consecrated ground within 3 days of the funeral or my Dad doesn't get to go to Heaven. (A) I cannot find this in my Google search. (B) Given all that happened before, I think they are trying to use religion to manipulate me.

Is this a true Catholic belief or am I being manipulated?

  • Telemarketer threatened to rape me?

I received a call from a scam. I called it out as such, stating that it is illegal for those wishing to do business in my country to say they have a prior business relationship with you when they do not. He immediately began swearing and calling me dirty names; I told him this does not bode well for convincing me of the legality of the operation if he is so unprofessional. He kept telling me to hang up, so I questioned him if he had this ability, or if I could stay on the line and prevent him from scamming someone else.

He then read my address to me and said he was going to come here and rape me. I flatly told him that what he said was a threat and he had just broken another law by threatening me. He further called me demeaning, dirty names. I asked him who he was, where he was calling from, etc. He asked me why, I said if he was legal, he would know the law required him to give me answers. He evaded and eventually hung up.

I immediately called the police, thinking I would just report the stat, but they said threats of bodily harm required the presence of an officer so they would send one to my home. I felt embarrassed, and said I didn't feel right about taking on officer of the street for a petty little boy trying to be big. I agreed to come in for an appointment to file tomorrow.

What kind of person thinks it is okay to say such a thing, and especially when called on it? The more I sit with this, the more uneasy I feel. I am getting scared. Help!

  • Sims 3: inappropriate aging?

My sims were created the same time. The wife aged 16 days before her husband (both human). Whatever error it was, saved with my game, because exiting and replaying still led to aging. I can t reverse it. Any way I can prevent it?

  • Respect response to "I love you" when you don't?

We were watching a television show that dealt with yet another unsuccessful response to "I love you," and started our experiences with this in relationships. We all wish we had had good responses because (a) you care about the person, and (b) sometimes it's just a matter that you aren't there yet but may be soon.

Anyone had a good response? Or had someone have a good response for your confession? My best one that I've said was "thank you" but the opinion of the group is still that this response sucks.

  • Interviews after terminated for reporting harassment?

How do you answer the question for why you left the job when you were forced out for reporting that the favourites were harassing you and that your boss violated your rights for taking no action? I feel like I was just re-victimized repeatedly and am really angry and bitter. As well, the stress of the situation has had significant effects on my health.

Bet ya I can kiss my reference goodbye.

I'm not good at lying (and you shouldn't for a job interview). However, I really need to rehearse being diplomatic for this question.

  • Is there something wrong with Puretracks?

I have had an account for years. Then, one day, I tried to log on but it said I had no account; I emailed this concern to Puretracks for no response. Lately, I can't even get the website to load.

I have not read anything in the news about Puretracks going out of business and no one has updated Wikipedia saying it went out of business (not the most reliable source but surprisingly up to date sometimes). Does anyone know anything?

  • Healthy/balanced soup for low appetite?

My grandmother is sick with lung cancer; the pain has significantly reduced her appetite. Prior to this second bout of cancer (or the first) we suspected she had orthorexia nervosa - her obsession with "healthy" food included things like a fear of salt that led to a family member she feeds suffering from hyponatraemia. As such, she's not eating much but rejecting a lot of food.

I need a recipe for soup that:

    - tastes pretty good

    - has no added sugars (she won't eat it),

    - a few complex carbs but not too many carbs or "simple" carbs

    - has a bit of healthy fat (she won't admit it, but she has been repeatedly told to gain weight; she won't eat fat unless it is hidden in something)

    - packs a nutritional punch so she can stay fairly balanced even when she cannot eat much

    - preferably freezable, so I can make packets for her to just take when she does not want to cook

** NO SOY/TOFU and no processed products: she shouldn't be eating the former and she will reject the later. Any protein should come from legumes for her to eat it, or small bits of meat (she is more likely to eat fish; chicken/white okay, red meat is a struggle for her to accept).

If it is vegan, with a lot of vegetables, she is more likely to accept it; however, anything balanced she might be willing to try. It can be chunky or pureed; she likes both - chunky feels more like food, but pureeing is best when one cannot eat (hey, a soup that works as both would be great!).

Does anyone have a good soup recipe that just makes them feel healthy?

  • Alternative to eggs for burgers and meatloaves?

Dealing with milk and egg allergies in a partner, and wanted to make some of my family's classic dinners (he's never had them) but I'm not really sure what to use to bind meat together? Obviously a banana or applesauce won't match these.

I would prefer not to use egg replacer, partially due to the difficulty in finding one without egg and because we do try to eat clean.

Any suggestions for how to make bound-meat products like meatballs, burgers and meatloaves without eggs? (I wouldn't mind finding a way to bind for egg-free veggie burgers either.) I try just leaving them out of the meat, but they are more prone to falling apart.

  • Where to eat Kosher in Ottawa?

There's only like 3 Kosher restaurants in Ottawa, barely. Where are people keeping kosher eating? Are there non-certified places keeping eggs/dairy versus meat separate?

PS: If you answer with your house, I'm not picking you for Best Answer. Just saying.

  • How to increase cat's activity? To lose weight?

My cat is overweight, largely due to his long-term use of steroids (only effective treatment for his condition) which increased appetite. Another challenge is that another condition requires the use of a prescription diet, deviation from which could have fatal consequences in a short time (if he eats something else which lowers the pH of his urine and he develops a crystal, without treatment he could die a very painful death in 12-24 hours. Keep in mind that I am not always home to save him). So using a weight loss formula with reduced calories is not an option.

The only option is to get him more active. It is not to say that he is never active, but since we moved somewhere without mice there's much more inactivity (and he has become more of a watcher than a chaser of bugs). I try new toys, but that only works for about a day. I try playing with him, but he prefers solo play. As well, the only things we do together that gets him active kind of involves me chasing him and I've notice he doesn't always perceive it as a game, so that's just cruel.

Any suggestions to increase his activity? Remember that they cannot include treats as motivators/rewards, and shouldn't involve the outdoors (we're urban dwellers and he is agorahobic, allergic to certain bug bites, etc.).

  • Non-traditional shaped business card printers in Ottawa?

I have an idea for "my" business cards, but they would be a non-traditional shape the size of a business card of smaller (since I want them to fit into my clients' business card holder address books and my own business card holder, for passing them out).

Any ideas on who can handle non-traditional shape/size cutting? Do you know if your print shop idea is able/willing to give me a proof before cutting a box?

Details helpful, especially for best answers. However, all information helpful.

  • Canada-Ontario Student Loan - enforceable without signature?

I was accepted into the Repayment Assistance program several years ago. Last year, they split my integrated loan in two, telling me that the Federal Portion (a good 2/3rds of my loan) was going to be paid off by grants due to my being disabled with financial hardship. As a part of it, they gave me a Revision of Terms (which I signed) for the original loan account with my new principle being smaller. They never sent or otherwise asked me to sign an agreement for this second loan for the split, despite several phone calls where I offered.

Now I am receiving notices of arrears for the second loan they split off. Currently, I am being told that this is due to system maintenance and I am to disregard these notices. However, between these notices and other issues with the National Student Loan Service, I know they make mistakes and you pay for the error.

Since they rarely sue, just garnish your taxes refunds and wages because they're government and can work with CCRA, I don't think I'd ever truly get a day in court over the issue if pursued. Can they make me pay back this second loan for which I never signed an agreement? Can they garnish my taxes and wages without an agreement?

  • Base Exchange at KAF (Kandahar) open to civilians? Currency?

My mother is a civilian (Canadian Civil Servant) being sent to KAF for a month on a project. The prep information is coming back in drips and dregs, making it very difficult to plan. So we knows that she will be fed in the mess like everyone else but does she need to bring personal hygiene items with her (like shampoo and soap) or is she allowed to purchase items at the Base Exchange without a military ID, if her supplies run out? If she can purchase stuff at the Exchange, do you have to use Canadian currency or can you use electronic? (Interac, credit cards)

I hear they are subsidized to give comparable prices to back home; now, with subsidizing they love to SAY things are cheaper but they are often not. Did you find the prices comparable to home?

  • British to Canadian/American meaning of phrase "can't get arsed"?

Watching the BBC series "Being Human" and Anna tells George, when he asks her and Mitchell for an opinion on his date outfit, "Looks like you can't get arsed..."

What does that phrase mean? Searching it, I've found a million quote with different contexts, which makes it harder to understand (no longer seems like it means "can't get laid.") Can anyone explain in plain, easily transferable English?
