  • Does assigning a drive letter format the hard drive?

I discovered the answer to this a while ago when I upgraded my computer but I can t remember the answer.

What I am going to do today is install a new motherboard and CPU into my computer case, and I was wondering if when I plug my hard drives back in (I have multiple) and assign them drive letters using disk management, will this force me to format my hard drives or will it allow you to do so without formatting?

I am relatively sure that assigning a drive letter last time didn t force me to format my hard drive, but I want to be sure.

    Thanks.

  • How is British military spending so high, yet the armed forces are so small?

I ask this because the UK has one of the highest defence budgets in the world, yet its armed forces are relatively small. Our navy is small these days, I don't think our air force is very big, and our land army certainly isn't large. Adding on top of this, the other day we required American intervention to track a Russian submarine off the Scottish (I think it was Scottish anyway) coast, because we had scrapped the required aircraft.

Yes, we have very longer training programmes compared to other nations, but seriously where is all of this money going?

  • What would have happened if peace wasn t signed after the UK took back the Falkland Islands?

I mean, the UKs goal wasn t to completely destroy Argentina and vicce versa, so what if after the Islands were taken back, nobody wanted peace?

Would the UK have bombed Argentina, blockaded its ports, or would they have eventually tried to invade the country? What other things might have happened?

I thought of this question the other day, and was just curious.

    Thank you for your answers.

  • What are the limitations of the Little Man Computer (LMC)?

Now if you want, go ahead and write the answer. However, I d be more interested in where you got the information from, or at least direct me in a general direction as I am unable to find any information on this.

It would be preferable for you to use academic websites/articles.

    Thank you.

  • Why do we pay so much in university tuition fees when we're expected to do the majority of studying/finding out information ourselves?

Surely if we're paying a lot of money, they should be the ones to teach us, and not us teaching ourselves through reading.

For example, in my course there are 25 hours of lectures, 25 hours of tutorials (or something similar to these hours), and then something like 80 hours of independent study.

  • Can two different shapes have different areas and perimeters, but have the same lengths and widths?

This is in regards to squares and rectangles only?

I am writing a C++ program, and I need to know for one of my if statements. I originally thought that this could not happen, but my girlfriend's mother seems to think this condition can be true. So... can it?

  • How to type a+b+the square root of a^2+b^2 into a calculator?

I'm attempting to create a C++ program to calculate the area and perimeter of a right-angled triangle. However, I cannot do this until I can actually type the equation into a calculator properly to ensure I get the right answer.

What I would like to know is, where are the brackets etc?

I've attempted it but can't seem to get it right.

    Thank you.

  • How can I control my actions in my thoughts?

There is nothing really serious about it, but it has been happening for years.

Basically, let's say I try to imagine myself walking in the street... my mind will make me fall through the floor lol, but no matter how hard I try, I cannot prevent myself from falling through the floor.

Another example that I had just now... for some reason I was thinking of putting a wire into my father's sat nav in order to connect it up to the computer, but every time I tried to imagine me putting the wire in completely, my brain would make one side of it fall back out, and vice versa.

How can I control my thoughts, and have what I want to happen in them, happen? lol.

I've never really questioned it before.

I apologise if this question is in the wrong category.

  • Why are there so many paedophiles in the UK political system?

It seems to me that every other day there are new allegations being made against a high-profile public figure. Not only this, but it seems as if parliament tries to hide all of these things, or other government organisations who seemed to have known what was going on, but didn't say anything.

I know you don't have an answer, but I was wondering what your thoughts are on this.

  • What would have happened if Gemany won world war 1?

What I mean by this is that after the allies won, eventually Germany returned to being its own state. However, if Germany had won WW1, would they have eventually moved out of France and Britain etc and let them be their own nations again?

I don't ask this about WW2, as I know that Hitler did want to take over some parts of Europe, and ended up in war, but what was the aim of Germany in WW1?

    Thanks for your answers.

  • Does using a VPN stop your ISP being able to see your IP or seeing who you are?

I ask this not for my own personal gain, it's just me and my friend are discussing this and he thinks that it will stop your internet service provider seeing what you are doing, whereas I believe that even though your true IP address is hidden when you use a VPN, your ISP can still tell that its connection is being used, and who the specific connection is contracted to, as you've signed up to their services.

Please tackle the question in two parts:

    1) If you use a VPN, can your ISP still see your IP address?

    2) If you use a VPN, can your ISP still see who you are/tell which registered user is using the connection?

Thank you very much for your time.

Apologies if this question is in the wrong section.

  • What is it with all of the plane incidents lately?

First the Malaysian airlines flight went missing, then one got shot down, then another Taiwanese plane got shot down, and now a plane flying over Africa has gone missing.

Here is the link to the disappearance of the plane over Africa: http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/491296/Plane-c...

Unless there is some sinister plot about, it seems that these things are a coincidence.

What is your opinion on these incidents?

  • Why do Internet Service Providers hide broadband charges?

They will advertise prices like £10.99 per month for broadband, but then an installation charge of £49.99, plus line rental of £15 per month, so the initial cost is £75.98, then £25.99 for the rest of the months.

Why can't they just state the full price of the broadband package?

I ask this because I'm currently looking for the best broadband deal for somebody, and it always ends up more expensive than the companies advertise lol.

I think I already know the answer, they want to attract you before you see the true horror in terms of prices lol.

Thanks for listening to my rant!

  • What is wrong with this computer?

My girlfriend's computer is displaying some weird symptoms that we've never seen before, and I was wondering if anybody could tell me what it is.

Here are two links to images which show what visual disturbances are occurring on the screen:

    http://imageshack.com/a/img843/8274/9xq6.jpg

    http://imageshack.com/a/img845/7982/usox.jpg

Here are the symptoms when using the computer:

    - All of a sudden freezes for like 2 mins

    - Music being played stops

    - Then unfreezes

    - Fuzzy cursors appear

    - Screen keeps freezing for a few seconds, and mouse constantly sticks.

and, wrong cursor in wrong places.

The computer is a relatively decent computer, it has an i3 Dual Core processor (first generation), a gtx 560 gpu, a 650W OCZ psu (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005DJJRVQ/ref=... and about 1.5TB of hard drive space.

The GPU and PSU are quite new and haven't been used for very long, so I don't think they are failing, but you never know.

    Thanks for your answers!

  • Why do some people in relationships do this?

Apologies in advance if this is long.

Basically, after a while of being with my girlfriend I decided that I was seeing her too often and that I would like some space. This leads to the situation that I am in now, which is that I see her every other day. Sometimes, I would like a little bit more space, but I'm fine with the current arrangement. Anyway, my girlfriend would probably be happy to see me more often than we see each other now, and she probably wouldn't get fed up.

Now on to my friend, he is in a relationship with a girl who is a lot worse, and I mean a lot. She will be happy to spend 4 days consecutively with him, but not just that, she will also sleep over so that he never gets a break. Sometimes he specifically tells her not to come over to his house, but she selfishly turns up even after being told no just because she wants to see him, and not vice versa. He told me that at one point, it got to the point where she would text him and he would groan to himself about it.

Anyway, both me and him agree that this is annoying, and we're confused as to how these two girls can handle being with their partners so much, and not want their own space. I mean, don't they get fed up?

Also just to clarify, both of us are not at the beginning of our relationships, where normally new couples want to spend every day with each other lol.

    Thanks for your time :D

  • What is the quartile coefficient of skewness?

Before this question I have been asked to calculate the lower and upper quartiles of a set of data. I assume these are something to do with this question. I assumed at first that I had to calculate the coefficient of skewness of the lower quartile, but I just want to make sure that I am correct.

    Thanks for your answers!
