  • Authors similar to Harlan Coben, Robert Crais?

Including Coben and Crais, I've also read all the novels from Michael Connelly, Lee Child, John Sandford, and am currently reading Robert B. Parker's novels (although many of his older novels are quite hard to find around here).

If you're familiar with these authors, it's probably obvious that I enjoy reading the detective/crime fiction genre (especially from authors who feature a series around a specific protagonist [Bolitar, Cole, Bosch, Reacher, etc.]), so I'm wondering if people have suggestions of other authors similar to the ones stated above.

Oh, and I've also read the first few novels from Jeffery Deaver, Jonathan Kellerman and John Connolly, but their novels haven't really tickled my detective bone.

  • How do I know if a system is good for gaming?

I'm buying a new laptop but have been stressing a bit about the graphics specifications recently. I don't play a lot of games, but I do like to play Madden and NBA. I was wondering what makes a laptop good for gaming.

I'm aware of the importance of processor speed, RAM, and the Graphics Chipset, but I'm not so aware about Discrete, Integrated, Expandable, and overall Video Memory.

I was thinking of buying an LG R405-G.CP02A9, which has a 320 GB S-ATA hard drive, 2.0 GHz processor speed, and 4GB DDR2 RAM. I love those specifications, but unfortunately, the Graphics Chipset is a Intel GMA X3100, which I'm fairly sure is quite poor. It also doesn't have Discrete Video Memory or Expandable Video Memory, but it does have Integrated Video Memory and it's total Video Memory is 1599MB.

I compared that with a Toshiba PSLC8C-040019, which has a 250GB hard drive, 2 GHz processor speed, and 2GB RAM. The graphics chipset is a ATI Radeon 3100 (not great, but seemingly significantly better than the chipset that comes with the LG above). No Discrete Video Memory, an Expandable Video Memory of up to 894MB, an Integrated Video Memory, and an overall Video Memory of to 894MB Shared.

I don't need a GREAT gaming system, but I'd like one that can handle NBA 2K9 (for example) which requires a pretty good system.

So how important are the Discretion, Expansion, Integration and the overall Video Memory to it's performance? Which type of system is better for gaming?

  • Is it safe to use multiple shampoos?

I know Head & Shoulders has recently come out with better smelling shampoos, but I still have a large bottle of the old fashioned not-so-great smelling H&S that I use. Because it doesn't smell that great, but works great for preventing dandruff, I also like to use Herbal Essences - which makes my hair look and smell better, but doesn't do much to prevent dandruff.

I usually just use one or the other, but recently, I've been experimenting and using both in one trip to the shower. I dont mix them or anything, but I shampoo with H&S first, then a couple minutes later, I use Herbal Essences (and vice versa).

So does using multiple shampoos at one time, such as Herbal Essences and Head & Shoulders, damage my hair or scalp?

I think that it wouldn't do any damage... but figured I'd ask anyways.

  • Fantasy NBA... time to drop Ronnie Brewer?

Ever since the Kyle Korver trade to Utah, Ronnie Brewer has been playing less minutes and isn't producing the numbers he was earlier in the season.

I'm not desperate for help, so I was thinking of just sticking with him... but there are guys like Ryan Gomes in my FA pool, who has been playing really well the last couple weeks on a bad Wolves team.

    Some other options include:

Al Horford (who I had just dropped a few days back)

    Joe Smith

    DeShawn Stevenson

    Anthony Carter

    Steve Blake

    James Jones

  • What is/was your favorite quickly-cancelled TV show?

A lot of shows - especially on FOX - get cancelled quite quickly.

Some recently cancelled shows that I can remember off the top of my head that only lasted a season or two at best:

Standoff... Wonderfalls... The War at Home... Drive... Viva Laughlin... Vanished... Justice... Studio 60... and many many more.

So, what is/was your favorite quickly-cancelled TV show?

  • What's the most boring name you can think of?

Well, my name is David... most people consider that one of the more boring names out there cuz of how common it is.

Are the most boring names all common? Are there unique names that just sound boring?

  • With current rosters, would you want your fav. team to sign your fav. player?

This question only makes sense if your favorite player is not actually on your favorite team... such as myself.

I'm a Toronto Raptors fan, but my favorite player is Baron Davis (of GS Warriors). With the current roster the Raptors have, and if Baron Davis became a free agent, I actually wouldn't want the Raps to sign him.

Some reasons are that Davis seems to play better with athletic guys around him (which the Raps dont have)... he frequently jacks up some questionable shot selections... he's sorta injury prone... etc.

So Baron Davis may be my favorite player, but I wouldn't want my favorite team, the Raptors, to sign him. Obviously, if the Raptors had a different style of game that fit Baron Davis better, I would love it. But with the current rosters, and with wanting the best for both the team and player, I wouldn't want it.

Seems like most people think it would obviously be great if their fav. player and fav. team hooked up, but do you?

  • For men... and I guess freaky women...?

... Do you ever get annoyed by urinals?

Don't get me wrong, it's very convenient... but every once in a while, after I've done my business, I zip up and notice that a small amount splattered onto my pants. Nothing was wrong with my aim... the stuff just splashed off the urinal. What made it noticeable was that I was wearing gray pants that day.

Anyone else have the same type of lame story? Haha.

I did, a few hours ago... it was like "aaaaachh-*cough!*" and some spit came flying out.

My throat was sore for a bit. I didnt think much of it at first, but then I realized I had never done that before. How about y'all?

  • Fantasy NBA: Impact of Rookies?

Al Horford seems to be the only rookie so far starting and producing decent numbers (well atleast with rebounding).

I thought Thornton was going to start at the PF spot with Brand out, but he's benched behind Tim Thomas and Ruben Patterson. I thought Brewer was going to start for the Wolves, but he's benched behind Gomes (who's playing well enough so far to keep his starting position). Thought Green was going to start for the Sonics, but is benched behind Wilkins who is playing very well so far. Conley Jr. hasn't even touched the court yet, and there were early talks that he might have started over Stoudamire from the get-go.

I know it's rare for rookies to have any fantasy impact right away... but I was just wondering what others thought about guys like Mike Conley Jr., Al Thornton, Corey Brewer, and Jeff Green... and if they're going to get starters minutes soon, or if they'll all be just bench warmers their first season.
