  • (Opticians) What is a retinal nevus and is it serious?

My friend was told he has a nevus on his retina, which wasn't there 2 years ago. They have arranged for him to see a specialist, but that's 2 months from now. He wasn't given any information, except that it's a freckle on the eye. They said that if it's growing, they might have to do a biopsy.

He has a tendency to freak out when it comes to his health, and is already expecting to hear that it's cancer and he'll go blind.

Any information would be helpful. Perhaps a reliable website with evidence-based information. Thanks.

  • Survey for new parents... regarding your children's oral health.?

I am a dental hygiene student and one of my assignments is to attend a new Moms group and teach about childhood oral diseases, demonstrate tooth brushing techniques and answer questions about infant and child oral health.

  • Is it normal for water to pool up in the bottom of my portable dishwasher?

After the machine has finished the cleaning cycle and shut off, there is still a bunch of water (couple inches) in the bottom of the machine.

I bought it second hand and it didn't come with a manual. It seems to clean well, but the water in the bottom bothers me.

  • How should I buy my milk? Carton or plastic jug? ?

Which is the most energy efficient?

Is it better to recycle the plastics or send the carton to the land fill (we don't have a recycling facility that recycles milk cartons)?

I would imagine it takes a lot of energy to recycle plastics... or should I let nature decompose the carton?

I have a small child so I go through a lot of milk.

  • How to help a 2 year old with chronic constipation? (warning: TMI)?

My daughter has always suffered from constipation (all 28 months of her life). It is a family issue that both myself and my mother suffer with. My daughter has very hard stools and often cries out in pain when she's going. Today there was even some blood.

I have talked to the doctor, but they always say the same thing... lots of water and high fibre foods. Or they will suggest a quick fix treatment. Even with increased water and high fibre foods, it doesn't seem to have any effect (on either of us).

I have tried tricking her by putting pureed prunes into her drink and food, but she can taste it.

Does anyone have any other tricks for me to introduce more foods that are beneficial to soften stools?

  • I'm considering breast implants... any advice?

I am 31 years old... have one child and I am undecided on whether I will have any more kids. I'm not looking to get big fake looking boobs, just to perk up my post-pregnancy boobs. I am a small 34 B now and would only go to a C-cup.

  • Claiming child care expenses on Canadian income tax?

I'm trying to do my taxes using a UFILE program. This is the first year I will be claiming child care expenses, so I'm not sure what I need to claim...

    1. When they ask for amount paid for child care, is that before the subsidy amount, or the monthly amount paid to the daycare?

    2. They want the SIN of my daycare provider? That seems like personal information that I don't feel comfortable asking for... isn't a name, address, and phone number enough?

    Thanks

  • Why do some people think c-sections are the easy way out?

The recovery period is significantly longer than natural birth... you have to be drugged... your stomach muscles are severed, which means you can't lift your baby by yourself, you can't open a door, you can't lie down in bed, you can't sit up... you have a permanent 5 inch scar... your chances of infection are greatly increased.

Don't get me wrong... sometimes they're necessary.

  • I'm writing a research paper...?

and I used some pictures from Google Images. Do I have to reference them at the end? Also, when I mention brand names in my paper, do I have to have the "registered trademark" symbol beside the brand name? If so, which font can I use to find that symbol?
