  • Does anyone know of a Place teens can make friends in nyc?

My 16 yr old niece is visiting for the summer And I think she is getting bored with me and my 2 yr old. I didn't grow up here so I'm not sure the best route. In my home town there were many options but I don't even know where to start here and the area I live in seems to be mostly children under 4!

  • my COUCH has fleas my cats DON'T!?

ok I am going nuts! I live in an area that has a TON of stray cats. My 100% full time indoor cats got fleas! I got them Advantage and now they stopped scratching and aside from hating one another they are happy campers however I am not! I fell asleep on my couch and woke up with HUGE bites on my arms, legs, and side! My first thought was bedbugs since NYC is having a HORRID problem with them currently but nope...fleas! I just caught one taking a rest on my arm! Help! My cats are flea free, my couch is not! I vacuumed it and have daily but somewhere they are still kicking around in it and waiting for me to nap! I know they are just on my couch by where I get bit and the fact my 1 yr old daughter does not have bites. I have a bad allergic reaction to the bites so advice or tips are welcome!

  • looking for dance studio in NYC that offers adult classes (tap, jazz, lyrical)?

Hello! I'm from PA and have danced for 23 years of my life. Since I moved to NYC 5 years ago I've not been able to locate a dance school I liked (or maybe I've not looked hard enough!) I am looking for a school that holds a performance at least once a year, offers classes in adult tap, jazz/broadway, and lyrical, is non-competitive, I never wanted to make dance my life, just have it as part of it and I really would like to find a studio that matches this! I miss dancing so much and want to go back starting in the fall. I live in Queens and work in Manhattan but anywhere in NYC works for me!

    Thank you!

  • can your water break in a very early miscarriage?

Hello. I am usually quit knowledgeable on these topics since I have been coping with TTC for the past 10 years but I am unsure of this answer and can't find any info so I was hoping someone could help!

A friend of mine suffers numerous mental health issues ( severe depression, anxiety, etc) as well as numerous health issues relating to the digestive system (all very severe).

She has brought up many times that she has had a miscarriage and to be honest I, as well as her other friends have had a hard time believing it. One day she will say she has her period, the next week she will call saying she had a miscarriage. As her friend I hate to not believe her but it honestly seems so impossible and illogical. As I mentioned after 10 years of TTC I am very well aware of how the entire conception process occurs, not to mention a degree in biology however nothing she says matches my knowledge.

Today she told me she had water pouring out of her and asked what it was. I suggested a trip to the ER to find out. About 90 minutes later she told me her "water broke" and they were "putting her under and taking her in". Now here is my problem; the most she could have been was 6 weeks to 8 weeks pregnant from her past conversations of having a period. She is a size 0 to a 1 so I highly doubt she was further because she has literally no tummy. She has never mentioned a pregnancy symptom, etc. To me this all seems a bit unreal but God forbid it is I would like to comfort my friend.

With my knowledge; if your water broke at even 10 weeks you would not have gushing that as she described "poured" out of her for over an hour every time she stood up. My friend who just gave birth to a 10lb over due baby last week did not even have that happen when her water broke!

Can someone please provide some insight. Thank you

  • sore throat for 3 weeks, going crazy and yes I've seen many doctors-HELP!?

I feel like I'm going to go nuts! I've seen 4 doctors and still my throat hurts! Three weeks ago I started to get a sore throat which is odd for me since I do not have tonsils. It got worse and so I went to the Dr. had a negative strep test and was told it was allergies. Last week it seemed to be getting worse, went BACK to another Dr. was told I had a 101 fever and tested positive for strep. I got home only 2 hrs later and had no fever and have not since then so I'm not sure that was true. I was given penicillin and started to feel better over the weekend. Now this week my sore throat is back! It is mostly right in the top back of my throat and when I wake up in the morning the back of my throat on top is sort of painful with a slight burning.

I do indeed have GERD but since I was a child it has been pretty much under control. When I eat something spicy my throat does not hurt any less or more. I tried a billion over the counter allergy meds as well as a prescription nasal spray and nothing helped.

Last week it felt like I had a dry spot in my throat and it was swollen on one side. This week it is just that top back of my throat that is a cross between burning and pain.

Today I went BACK to my reg. Dr who said my throat did not look red but my glands felt a bit swollen (note- they do not to me and I usually can tell!). They said I was not given a high enough dosage of antibitoics and so they gave me a new one as well as sent a throat culture out to the lab.

I do have seasonal allergies, and in the morning I sneeze a lot. Right now it feels like I have to keep swallowing because snot is dripping down the back of my mouth.I asked the Dr. if all this could be from Post Nasal Drip and they looked at me like I sprouted horns!

Overall I feel healthy. My nose is not stuffy but I can usually blow it and get some clear snot ((TMI sorry) out of it. Sometimes my ears will hurt too, like down the side of my neck to my ears but thats about it. On Sunday for about 2 hrs my ears hurt really bad but have not much since. I just keep getting this sorta salty nasty taste too in the back of my mouth.

If anyone has an ideas please feel free to share! I'm off to get yet another antibiotic! Thank you!

  • hiring an adoption lawyer?

Hello. My husband and I have been asked to adopt a close friends younger sisters baby due this summer. She has chosen us because she can not raise another child and has known us since she was a little girl.

We live out of state from her now and although are approaching with caution we want to get the ball rolling so to speak. We already finished our homestudy because we were going to adopt through the state this year. The homestudy is good for 5 years so we are clear there. We also already had our home visit, clearances, fingerprint clearances, and home safety inspection.

I am just trying to get a few questions answered now!

Since she is very reassuring she will be placing the newborn with us, we are looking to find a lawyer in PA where she lives.

Does anyone know on average the cost of an adoption without an agency in PA (basically just a lawyer)?

Aside from the retainer how do you pay a lawyer? (i.e. up-front, in payments until adoption is final, over the course of payments, etc.)

If you have any additional information feel free to add and thank you!

  • flying with a lap infant, question!?

We are flying with our 13 month old (not a true infant) and he will be held throughout the flight on my lap.(He HATES car seats and will cry the entire flight, plus the flight was almost booked!) I want to know how the seat belt part works. Within safety standards I would assume it only goes around me and I then hold him, but a friend of mine was told to put the belt around both her and her infant, which I do not think is safe at all.

Has anyone taken a recent trip (we are flying JetBlue) and dealt with this situation?

    Thanks everyone!

  • Long layover at Richmond airport, need some help!?

Hello! I am flying back from a vacation and we come into Richmond Airport at around 10pm and have a flight back to JFK at 6am. I see no point in getting a hotel for that amount of time, especially since we are flying JetBlue back to JFK and although I love them; they are classically late! I am guessing we will arrive in Richmond somewhere around 11pm-ish. The flight back to NYC is at exactly 6am.

I have tried and tried to find info out on the web and even called the airport but no one seems to be able to tell me what time their restaurants close! I once had a layover like this in Buffalo, NY and could not get anything to eat until 5am! We are having an early dinner/late lunch before our flight into Richmond but just in case I would like to know if they have anything (even a place to get a snack or coffee) open over night!

    Thanks!

  • independent adoption question on B fathers and interstate?

Hello all. We recently began the process to adopt an older child when I received an email from one of my best friends younger sisters. She is the mom of two beautiful girls and found herself preg. again and just can not do it. She knows we want to adopt and if she decides (still has about 6 months to go) truly wants to place the baby with us.

I will be seeking a lawyer soon but I do have a question. She is completely unsure who the father of this baby is. She lives in Pennsylvania, could anyone tell me the "rules" for this? Advice welcome too!

    Thank you!

  • stray cat spraying....HELP!?

I am having MAJOR cat issues...and NO it's not my cat!

A few weeks ago heard what sounded like an animal living under my house. Lo and behold it is cats, MANY cats from the sounds of it, we have checked and checked and can not find out how they are getting in! I live only 3 blocks from the ocean in NYC so we have no basements due to land being over water. A few nights ago we heard a cat who was clearly in heat meowing under my bedroom window. You all know where there are female cats in heat there are male cats spraying!

Well yesterday it started to rain and now my entire house smells like damn cat urine from the male cats spraying the outside of my house! It is REALLY annoying not to mention embarrassing! Plus, we are currently in the process of adopting a little girl. I do not want the agency to come here and smell that, nor anyone else!

I read to try moth balls, then I read they turn from a solid to a gas and not good to breath, especially with asthma which I have. I also heard try pepper but from a vet's mouth it is toxic to cats and not only do I have a cat I adore (she is only indoors though, and fixed! lol) but I would NEVER harm an animal.

Please if anyone has ANY ideas of what to do, please send them ASAP!

    Thanks!

PS- NYC is so big they not humane societies that will just come pick up strays so that's not an option.

Please do not post something ignorant or inhuman,be an adult and post as one.

  • pain in left upper ribs, for a year! ?

Hello. For a year I have had pain below my left breast, feels like it is behind my ribs. I can almost pin point the spot of pain. The pain has came and went and most I feel it when I need to pass gas or have a BM. I do have GERD and take Pepcid 20mg 2x a day. About 2 weeks ago I caught a stomach virus which made it way worse. I've been trying to be careful and watch it but in the last 3 days it feels like someone kicked me in the ribs. They are sore and achy. It is WAY worse when I bend over, exhale a large breath, sneeze, cough, turn to my left, etc. It is sore to the touch, but if I lightly press on the area it makes me feel as if I need to pass gas.

I have been to the Dr. and all they keep telling me is to take Pepcid but I do not like to be in pain. The strange part is when I am standing it is better and this morning I noticed if I lay on my stomach it feels better! If I put my hand on the area and press lightly when I need to cough or sneeze it is not as bad either. This morning when I laid on it I actually felt better, like the pressure helped!

At times I have even felt it in my side.

I try not to eat much dairy to see if that was the problem. I do know I ate lasagna today which was very cheesy and got more gas build up which is making sitting very uncomfortable.

Nothing seems to help it that I have tried so far. I am 27, female and overall pretty healthy (I do have poly cystic ovarian syndrome). I am a bit over-weight though (about 60 to 70lbs)

I am trying to find a new dr. but it is not easy living in NYC and around the holidays and I'm sick of being told it is just GERD.

    Any help is welcome!

PS- PLEASE do not tell me to see a doctor or go to the ER. I have done all this many times and just get the same answer,

  • iPhone apps question?

I have an unlocked iPhone that was unlocked by Apple. My company does marketing for them, long explanation! lol The phone is also jailbroken.

I downloaded a free app via iTunes but did not put it on my phone yet. Here are my questions:

1.) Can I just sync it with my phone as I do with iTunes music and it opens?

2.) Do I need to download another program to make it work since my phone is unlocked?

3.) Is there a risk that this could brick my phone?

    Thanks for any help!

PS- again my iphone was NOT unlocked/jailbroken illegally and I still have Apple's warranty.

  • adoption home study question?

Hello. We are just starting the adoption process through the state of NY (we live in NYC). We are going through a program that usually places children between 2-8 year old children. We own a 2.5 bedroom house and I have a safety question for the home study process.

Currently, we made the larger bedroom into something else and took the smaller bedroom with the half room attached to make into a walk in closet. We were thinking of taking the larger room and making the child's room the smaller one since they will have a smaller bed, and making the half room a toy room for them. Our only concern is that through the half room is the laundry room, which also houses the furnace.

Currently this room is not locked, but could easily have a lock added to it.

Would this be considered "okay" in the eyes of the home study people? If it is an issue, we will just make the larger room the child's room but I really like the idea of giving them a toy room attached to their actually bedroom!

Anyone that went through a home study, your input is greatly appreciated.

  • can I bring my cell phone (if it's off) into a taping of SNL?

I just got the email that I was picked from the ticket lotto to attend a taping. I know it says "THE USE OF CAMERAS, CAMERA-PHONES, OR OTHER RECORDING DEVICES IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED" but what if I'm not using them and just have it in my bag, turned off? Can I bring it? I don't want to come all the way there and go home so late without my phone nor do I want to risk my tickets that I tried for four years to get!

  • hit and run accident in NYC?

My fiancee was JUST in a hit and run accident driving home here in NYC (Queens). The person cut him off, went right into his side mirror and pulled off part of his bumper. He is fine (thank God) but the other person did not even stop. Another car sped up got his plate numbers and brought them back to my fiancee. He is currently at the police station filing a report, but what will happen. Can they catch the other person by just the plates?

We are not from here and heard NYC has a no fault clause or something? We are fully insured.

  • taking OTC cold meds mixed with daily Claritin? What will happen?

I take Claritin 10mg prescribed by doctor.

This morning I woke up with an awful cold and not thinking too my allergy medicine. My sinuses and ears are aching so bad I can not even hold the phone up to my face at work. I want to take something to help that is over-the-counter but I do not know if it will mix with my Claritin.

I'm at work and can't be falling asleep at work so I am nervous to take anything. I think a few years back I took some OTC cold medicine with it because my Dr. told me to but I am not sure.

Anyone know? I am going to try running to the pharmacy at lunch but my ears are killing me.

    Ideas, suggestions, anything!

  • faint OPK and clear line on HTP?! -HELP?

My boobs have been hurting today so I figured I had on OPK test strip so I might as well try it. Well it’s been about 10 minutes and I was looking and looking and to the untrained POAS eye they would say negative but to most of us, after taking apart the test and holding it up to the light and staring for about 5 minutes I swear there is a very faint line!

I even took a pg. test to make sure it was not my eyes or mind (hey if I was going to imagine a positive it would be on the preg one!) but no such luck.

My only problem is I do not remember when I bought those tests and the ex. date was on the box which I threw away a while back.

I’m doing to BD tonight just in case but has anyone ever got a SLIGHT positive on a OPK??

Next question, I do not think I am preg. I think I’m ovulating but I never noticed this before and since I opened a POAS lab in my bathroom (lol) I noticed something weird. Has anyone ever seen a clearish line in the test area on a preg. test?!

I’ve never seen it before, it was clear but a line I don’t know how to describe it! lol

Anyone ever saw that, just wondering what it was/is!

I jave PCOS and have VERY irregular periods so I am not sure when my next one is due.
