my COUCH has fleas my cats DON'T!?
ok I am going nuts! I live in an area that has a TON of stray cats. My 100% full time indoor cats got fleas! I got them Advantage and now they stopped scratching and aside from hating one another they are happy campers however I am not! I fell asleep on my couch and woke up with HUGE bites on my arms, legs, and side! My first thought was bedbugs since NYC is having a HORRID problem with them currently but nope...fleas! I just caught one taking a rest on my arm! Help! My cats are flea free, my couch is not! I vacuumed it and have daily but somewhere they are still kicking around in it and waiting for me to nap! I know they are just on my couch by where I get bit and the fact my 1 yr old daughter does not have bites. I have a bad allergic reaction to the bites so advice or tips are welcome!
thank you 2 so far that have given good answers! I did get Advantage for the next 6 months for both cats. I am also taking my long haired cat to the groomers for a bath and to have some of her hair cut down.
Does anyone know of a flea spray that is non-toxic? I'm going to go get some tomorrow for sure!

Best thing to do is to get some flea spray and spray it all under the couch and under the pillows on the couch same way you did with the cats. and also spray some on the floors, because what seemed to have happend is the fleas left the cats and thay are still needing places to hide and stay so the couch is best for them because it's cozy. so get spray and soak the couch in it and through the house floors and such. it should get them away and out of the couch, and keep an eye out for the cats cause it takes only 1 flea to get on them again and then you have over a 100. true fact, also spray the beds and almost everything down besides food. treat everything to be on the safe side because thay can even hide in between wood, or under the smallest areas.
hope this helps
best of luck

i'm so sorry approximately your loss. No, i do no longer know how long the flea season lasts, yet i think of i'm able to help you a sprint. they'd't rather survive human beings for long sessions of time, as they'd on a cat or canines or the different animal, seeing as we've not got a plenty fur to cover in. yet they can grant out nasty bites. i could recommend utilising Raid Flea spray around the homestead, as you had once you had your cat. try paying for some human flea shampoo or physique wash to get them off of you. you additionally must do a cleansing/inspection of your place. Vaccuum and clean sheets and different mattress outfits. this ought to kill maximum of them. without the cat interior the homestead any extra, the flea's reign on your place could bypass down quickly besides, yet those will with any luck help you. as quickly as returned, so sorry for the shortcoming of your cat. i'm hoping that this helps, sturdy good fortune!

First make sure that you are putting flea drops on your cats every month.
Second vacuum all of your home, carpets, pet beds, floor, baseboards, couch, everywhere! Wash all sheets, blankets, pillow cases, anything you can wash.
Also try using a flea spray that is safe to use on couches and carpets to make sure you kill all of those fleas.
Make sure to throw out the dirt in the vaccum a.s.a.p.
Hope this helps.. and good luck!
