sore throat for 3 weeks, going crazy and yes I've seen many doctors-HELP!?
I feel like I'm going to go nuts! I've seen 4 doctors and still my throat hurts! Three weeks ago I started to get a sore throat which is odd for me since I do not have tonsils. It got worse and so I went to the Dr. had a negative strep test and was told it was allergies. Last week it seemed to be getting worse, went BACK to another Dr. was told I had a 101 fever and tested positive for strep. I got home only 2 hrs later and had no fever and have not since then so I'm not sure that was true. I was given penicillin and started to feel better over the weekend. Now this week my sore throat is back! It is mostly right in the top back of my throat and when I wake up in the morning the back of my throat on top is sort of painful with a slight burning.
I do indeed have GERD but since I was a child it has been pretty much under control. When I eat something spicy my throat does not hurt any less or more. I tried a billion over the counter allergy meds as well as a prescription nasal spray and nothing helped.
Last week it felt like I had a dry spot in my throat and it was swollen on one side. This week it is just that top back of my throat that is a cross between burning and pain.
Today I went BACK to my reg. Dr who said my throat did not look red but my glands felt a bit swollen (note- they do not to me and I usually can tell!). They said I was not given a high enough dosage of antibitoics and so they gave me a new one as well as sent a throat culture out to the lab.
I do have seasonal allergies, and in the morning I sneeze a lot. Right now it feels like I have to keep swallowing because snot is dripping down the back of my mouth.I asked the Dr. if all this could be from Post Nasal Drip and they looked at me like I sprouted horns!
Overall I feel healthy. My nose is not stuffy but I can usually blow it and get some clear snot ((TMI sorry) out of it. Sometimes my ears will hurt too, like down the side of my neck to my ears but thats about it. On Sunday for about 2 hrs my ears hurt really bad but have not much since. I just keep getting this sorta salty nasty taste too in the back of my mouth.
If anyone has an ideas please feel free to share! I'm off to get yet another antibiotic! Thank you!
have now finished TWO full courses of antibiotics. Saw 4 Dr's, 2 being an allergist. Already take probiotics

I think the post nasal drip alone can cause alot of the problems your having, guess the question is how to get rid of it. You mentioned you saw 4 Doctors, were any of the, allergy or ENT specialists? I was gonna say maybe you should see a specialist in allergies or Ear/Nose/Throat, they should be able to help more. I thing the other persons answer mentioned some real good advise that would be helpful to you as well, just a few more thoughts here. Hope you get some relief soon.

It sounds as if you have a combination of different ailments all at once. You have allergies, strep throat and probably some burned tissue from acid reflux. My concern is whether you have informed the doctors that you have taken different medications which may have caused one or the other to stop working optimally. Then again, it sounds as if you may have a sinus infection, which can be difficult to get over. As for the antibiotic, you must take the complete dosage, otherwise the infection will come back and it will be far worse than before. Take acidophilus pills (can be bought over the counter in the drugstore.) I highly recommend them as they keep the good bacteria in your body as the medications knock out the bad bacteria. Gargle 3 times a day with warm salt water and you should see a big improvement.

I feel you!... My 2yr old daughter and I have been sick for awhile. We both went through 3 diff antibiotics and an extended dose of steroids. I got frustrated and asked for us to be treated for allergies. So we were both on claritan. I saw my nose/ear/throat specialist and he gave me steroid nasal spray. Than my daughter gets those crusted eyes and I wake with a soar throat. I helped her and her eyes are much better but I have had a soar throat for about two weeks now. Just as I think it might be going away, it comes back. I was tested for strep, it was Neg. When explaining your soar throat...I was like omg I have the same. I also have post nasal drip, If you figue it out...please share because i'm so over it and I share what your feeling.

You should sip honey in hot water like tea. It won't do you any harm.
But you should get some specialist help in this matter and you should write down from beginning to end what medicines you have been having so the diagnoses can be right.
Gargle every 30min or so with warm water with salt water. I hope you feel better.
