spitting up when on tummy?

What age to babies usually outgrow spitting up?? My little guy is 9 1/2 months and 98% of the time when he spits up it's when he's on his tummy. He ALWAYS wants to be on the floor crawling, rolling, scooting but it's frustrating because I'm constantly following him around and cleaning up his trail lol. Also, he STILL sleeps in his bouncy chair (in his crib) because when he rolls onto his tummy in his crib he spits up then too, then rolls around in it. He will sleep in his crib not in his chair without complaint, but it's so much cleaner for him to be in his chair and he seems to get a more restful sleep.

We go to the Dr's on the 14th, until then I was just looking for some experiences, suggestions as to why, what, how to stop it. He also seems to spit up the most after having formula and spits up hardly at all after solid meals.

Update:

He has been formula fed from birth so the formula isn't something new.

Update 2:

I also inquired about reflux when he was around 3 months because it "runs" in the family and he was very spitty, but the Dr said no and everything I've researched on the internet said no as well, apparantly I just have a spitty baby!

Update 3:

I try to keep him off the floor for a minimum of 30min after meals..... usually in his jumperoo or exersaucer, but when he's screaming to get out and roam, there really isn't much I can do but let him loose!

My 2-year-old *still* occasionally spits up. Your description of your son sounds very similar to how she was at that age. She was never uncomfortable, and her weight gain was always more than enough. She just spit up a lot.

It got a lot better when she could sit up for longer periods, and when she was upright more often doing things like trying to stand. Also, the more solid food she ate, the better the spitting got. Your doctor is right - you have a spitty baby! It'll get better eventually....

One thing that really helped was when she would take a bottle, we would literally sit her straight up and down. I got into the habit of sitting her in my lap facing the same direction, so that her back was supported by my torso.

Ask your doctor about the possibility of reflux. My daughter gets terrible reflux and has been on medication since about three months for it. The solid food stays down better with her too, I think because it has a thicker consistency. She's eight months now and still has some spitting up but it's usually when she has drank her milk too fast or is moving about too much after eating.

LOL. My sons nickname as a baby was "UPCHUCK" He never had a tummy ache, he was breastfed then later switched to the formula and he was spitting up no matter what. We switched him to Soy formula (after talking to a dr.) and it helped a little. BUT he spat up until he was around 15 months old. I am sure your little one will out grow it sometime in the near future-just be patient and pray that the Dr. tells you the same thing:)

Do you put him on his belly near meal times? (or within 1-3 hours)
