is this allowed at work?
I work with my mother. We work for a large very well known corporation. we have both worked there for over two years. Perfect records. The other day my mom called in for the first time since she worked there. she was a double so she went in for her morning shift and before her afternoon shift her car broke down. Anyway, we worked together on our next shift and the manager sent me home for my shirt not having creases ironed down the sleeves. (brand new, perfectly clean wrinkly free shirt) They sent my mom home right after me for the same reason. And hers was even pressed and had the creases. (I took pics just to prove it) The next day we showed up for our next shift, to find out we were suspended. They wrote us up for a no call no show. But we did show. They sent us home. Now we have to go in and talk to our boss about why we shouldn't be fired. Can he fire us because he was personally mad at her? Can they even suspend us or send us home if we met all the requirments for our uniforms? Is this harrassment? What can I do about it?
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoHow many of you have read an on-line book?
Word on the street is on-line books are the way to go. How many of you have read an e-book before and how did you like it? Was it as good as being able to hold the book itself? would you rather read a traditional or e-book?
8 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhat genre do you query as if you fit in 3 different ones with one story?
I have been sending out queries for my manuscript to agents and publishers and they all want me to write what genre I am aiming for. But it fits in chick lit, womens fiction and fiction-genral lit. So I haven't been writting one at all. I have just been making sure to send it to people who except all three. Is it important to write what genre or is it ok not to-as long as I send a SASE with my query letter?

6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow many publishers do you think get rejection letters?
Self publishing publishers are out ther more than before. You submit a manuscript to someone who sounds lagit, no matrer how much research you've done and they all say the same thing. "WE LOVE YOUR BOOK. YOU HAVE POTENTIAL TO BE GREAT. I WANT TO PUBLISH YOU" Then they send there acceptance and contract letters. "YOU PAY $10,000 dollars and we'll sell your book." Blah blah blah. In the course of 6 months I have sent out more query letters than I can shake a stick at. Not to mention my own rejection letters on how I wasn't looking to self-publish. So If I had writen my "No thank you-keep your book-letters" How many other people did the same thing?

15 AnswersHoroscopes1 decade agoDo you consider flirting cheating?
My husband and I have a very healty happy relationship. BUT we are both big flirts. We don't touch and allow NO touching-just flirts by words. We are comfortable with this whether we are together or apart. We trust each other to the fullest. My friends are not so open in their relationships. If they even get caught talking to someone of the opposite sex they are threatening to leave each other. What is your take on it. Do you think flirting is cheating? Do you think that once you are in a good relationship all fun with other people should just stop?
7 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoHow do you pick what book you want to read?
Are you the kind of person who only reads books other people told you where good? The kind of person who reads something after the movie realease? Or the kind of person who will chose a book because you scanned through them and found one that caught your eye? How likly are you to read a book from a new author vs one who is already famous?
4 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoDo you tip based on service or gratuity?
Being a server it is a hit and miss. I live in a state that only pays $2.64 an hour to wait tables. That's just to make sure the government gets there cut. Some tables will come in and give $4 on a $100 bill when others will leave you $20 on a $60 bill. If the service is great and your food was good that sever deserves to be paid for their work. Telling them they did a great job and giving them $5 doesn't pay their bills. (Trust me I had and "unlucky week" once and called my electric company told them they were doing a great job and asked them if that would cover my $300 bill to them-surprisingly they said no) 15 percent gratuity is not to much to ask for if your service was awsome and you got everything you wanted and had a great time. If you tip more you are VERY much appreciated. And FYI to those of you who don't tip at all, we do remember your face and the next server in the resturant will give you crap service on perpose. Please tip your servers!! Question-Do you tip on service or the gratuity? And when you go to a resturant do you treat your server with disrespect is it because you had a bad day or because your just a prick who has no repect for the next working person?
7 AnswersOther - US Dining Out1 decade agoDo you really think that being a b*tch is cool?
Why are girls proud of being a b*tch? Rating themselves as the biggest b*tch they know and how being mouthy is fun. Talking about how they could whoop someones butt and what not. It seems childish to me. And I can't help but laugh when someone tries to be tough and you know they couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper sack. If you died tomarrow-wouldn't you rather be remembered as they girl who was sweet, loved and the kind of girl who would resolve conflict not cause it-instaed of being known as the biggest b*tch there was? Just asking.
6 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoWhat else can I do about this child who is not mine?
I am somewhat friends with this woman who is raising a six year old by herself. She loves him dearly and does just about everything for him. She gives him everything she can with no support from the father. BUT I went over to visit her the other day and the little boy was wlaking around drinking a slimfast!! (He is a very slim active child) I said "whoa little dude I don't think those are yours" and tried to take it away from him. His mom said "no I gave that to him. He won't eat for me so I give him those for the vitamins" I told her that if she wanted to do that then pediasue of something made for children would be more appropriate. She was obviously cringing at the fact that I was trying to tell her what to do and not to do with her kid. But come on Slimfast?? Is this even o.k. for a kid to drink instead of eating real food. Apparently he drinks at least 2 of them a day and only picks at food and sometimes will go through a whole day without eating because of them!! I am worried about this kid and I have brought it up a few times now but can't seem to get my point across. What would you do??

10 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoMy daughter has bad nightmears and wakes up every night to come into my room?
My 5year old has nightmears and wakes up scared almost every night. She is affraid of the dark yet she has never even seen a scary movie or anything. She has a nightlight and I read her bedtime stories to try and give her good dreams. I even baught a dream catcher in desparation. She sometimes even has them so bad she thinks they really happened. I feel so bad for her but at the same time I am sick of getting up in the middle of the night. Any suggestions on what might help her rest a little more easy?
6 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoI am writting a book (non-fiction Novel) anyone know a publisher that isn't going to charge me?
I have a finished manuscript and I have done my research on publishers. I feel like I can only trust the ones I need an agent for. I do not want to pay an agent to talk to people for me when my own voice works just fine. I just would like a publisher that I can depend on and that may be interested in my book. Any suggestions on where else I can look? I am willing to go to little publishers but finding one online without knowing the names of any has proven to be a task in itself.
