Food for a purple party?

I've looked at the answers for a purple party on here already but I am hoping for more detailed answers, and some recipes.

Where I live they don't sell purple potatoes, and eggplant, plums, red cabbage etc.. are out of season. So far all I have is the purple cow shake. Perhaps I could add food colouring to potato salad?

How about making sweet and sour cabbage? That uses red cabbage, and turns really purple when it's cooked. Being winter, cabbage should be available.

Some young red wines will also make food purple. Try braising some beef cubes and onions in some red wine.

Of course, you can also serve up slices of red onions, which are quite purple. Add those to your potato salad!

I believe you can buy the purple cabbage in a jar or can maybe a coleslaw of some kind. Taro is purple. Pickled beets are a kind of purple color. You could boil regular beets with potatoes to make a purple potato salad. Or make double stuffed potato skins and mash the inside part with cream cheese ,garlic, butter, purple coloring, salt ,pepper, maybe some onion powder and rebake for a little while. The skins wont be purple but its better than nothing. Purple jello jigglers. You can buy purple food dye and put it in anything you want. Mix some food coloring into whip cream and put it between layers on a cake.

Hello! When you cook the purple potatoes anyway they sometimes lose their color so I don't think that one would be the best. Be careful using food dye though because sometimes it doesn't taste too good esp if you use a lot. That said all that I can think of is....

    Fruits:

Blueberries, plums, prunes, grapes, and raisins.

    Appetizers:

Purple Bell peppers (maybe stuffed with rice - Make sure you don't freeze them raw. They turn green. Don't know if this happens if you freeze cooked purple peppers.)

Add food coloring to your veggie dip ( I heard you could even buy purple carrots at places like Trader Joe's)

Potato Skins - http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Baked-Potato-Skins/De... (maybe add dye to the sour cream)

    Drinks:

You can make punch with sherbet in it (either get a blueish Hawaiian punch or just add food coloring. Then add in some plain sherbet or blueberry)

    Dye milk

    Any blue/purple fruit drink

    Main Meal:

Kalamata Viniagrette - make with puree mayo, pitted Kalamatas an, lemon juice and anchovies together. It's a very tasty, and pretty purple/blue sauce to put on fresh tomatoes, lamb, grilled eggplant

A casserole that uses a white sauce, so you can add purple food coloring like a tuna and noodle casserole (check allrecipes for recipes like this one)

    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Best-Tuna-Casserole/D... OR http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Hearty-Tuna-Casserole...

    Dessert:

A purple cake - use food coloring. Make a layer cake and make sure you do the icing layer in between purple too it looks really cool when you cut it OR angel food cake with berry sauce

Blue cornbread, made with blue cornmeal

    Other:

If you do anything that will need ketchup I'm pretty sure they sell purple still (those crazy kid color ones)

I'd serve on white plates not purple so you can see the purple color of the foods. Also add in some purple decorates using all different shades from streamers to flowers. I'm not sure what kind of party it is but you can also add in different purple alcoholic drinks like purple and blue jello shots.

just add small amount of purple to some french onion dip,=purple dip...

You can soak some thinks like potatoes in beets and they will turn a purpilish-experiment'

You can have purple koolaid and or purple jello...just add purple koolaid to lemon jello-it's quite good!

You can always tint sugar cookie dough with purple food coloring.'

of course your purple tinted cake with purple icing(yuk)

Also use purple candles. If you cannot find any...you can make some out of purple crayons melted.'

You can also get plain bottles, melt purple crayons and drip them on the bottles like candles melted down, then stick a lilac or purple if you can find it candle in jar.'

you can probably find purple bunnies already for easter...look @ oriental trading co.(cheap)

When you color your food it's best to use the Wilton food colors, they have dark colors and it only takes a small amount to tint any food...mashed potatoes, mayo, sour cream, cottage cheese.

;You can soak lasagna in tinted water and tint cottage cheese,I don';t know how appealing any of this food will look(lol).Use purple balloons, maybe purple barney dinasours, purple plates, napkins, and silverwear can be bought at wal-mart.

You could get everyone to bring a purple food dish? everyone wear purple,Give everyone big gaudy purple necklaces. You might can order from oriental trading.

Use purple colored light sticks,Purple streamers.
