Canadian marrying American?

I'm not planning the wedding yet, but my BF and I plan to get married, I live in Canada, and he lives in the U.S. If one of us moves the the other country, I was wondering what kind of rights we would get. Like if I moved to the U.S. would I be able to work there like any other citizen? Could I but health insurance there? Is it just as though I'm an American but without citizenship, and if so, is there a way to get citizenship? I hope this all make sense... thanks for the help!

You'll be an alien on the lam. Need a green card and work visa or to marry the guy.

Please just get your shots before you come over here.

I have Dual citizenship. You can work here. Where ever you work will sponsor you with a visa. You can buy health insurance and stuff with it, but try to buy Temp insurance from Sears before you move. It will be cheaper than in the uS. Plus, if it takes awhile to get situated, you won't have to worry. You can apply to be a citizen when you marry. It's a long process. You can be a dual citizen as long as you live 3 month of every year here in the US.

You can move to the United States and I think you are not illegal but I think you should still have to apply for citizenship (not Sure) I live in Canada. Given the situation with US economy it would be much better to stay in Canada. In the United States very few Banks offer protection if they go under and here in Canada, the central bank protects banks from going under

The answer remains the same. Yes you can marry an American. THere are no laws that prevent it. However, you need to apply for the appropriate visas to move to the US and stay with him. Marriage does not guarantee citizThe same applies to him, marrying a Canadian does not mean he get's to move to Canada.

you will have to get married then apply for a green card then 3 yrs after marriage you will have to apply for citizenship so around 4 yrs after you get married you will be citizen of both the US and Canada. ;)

****But for some reason I would like to live in Canada better

You can have dual citizenship. I would recommend getting travel insurance before residing in the USA, though, if that is the route you decide to take. The process isn't as bad as you think ;)

He has to petition you for the green card after the marriage so that you can live and work in US as Permanent Resident. Eventually you can apply for US Citizenship after being PR for 3 years and still married to him.

You would have to obtain a permanent visa which would give you the right to reside in the US and then start the application process to become a citizen

I think you would have to get a working VISA or a permanent Resident card to stay here.
