In many areas gulf is associated with upper class and higher wealth. Gulf country clubs control who they allow to to come play, there are usually dress codes and such. You have an image to keep up. It encourages only the wealthy to participate. Or middle income folks who are forced to dress and behave like they are upper class.

And as we all know, there is a wealth disparity in this country between classes. Actually, it’s really an access to wealth problem that is certainly related to, but too often is conflated with, being a racial issue. It’s the fundamental problematic issue with the concept of meritocracy and capitalism, and why cultures of poverty which are reinforced by cultural/social structures that active enforce, reinforce that poverty that trap people, too often people of color, in poverty.

No. They had signs at golf courses that read, "No Blacks, No Jews" as a joke.

Tiger was the reason the sport got somewhat popular in the late 90's and early 00's. Since Tiger got injured and grew old the sport has gone right back to being invisible to most of the world.
