Good bye Yahoo answers?
As of May 4th Yahoo Answers will become history. It’s sad that yahoo and yahoo answers has had to resort to removing the ability for the public to post comments. Will nothing replace it?
3 AnswersYahoo Answers4 weeks agoGunbroker bidding?
So I’ve noticed that when I put the minimum bid listed it INSTANTLY says that I was unsuccessful and that the minimum is now higher. If I put in the new minimum bid it INSTANTLY tells me the same: unsuccessful and that the bid is even higher (and higher than the previous minimum bid minimum). What gives? It seems too fast for a person to outbid me. I feel I’m competing against an automated program, not a person. And you will repeat this taking the bid to ridiculous prices never achieving the minimum bid required, regardless of the minimum bid listed. Is it a scam to get the higher prices? Is it automated? What gives?
4 AnswersHunting2 months agoSuitable alternative to black horn 209?
Just getting into Muzzleloading with a traditions pursuit. Seems black horn 209 is considered the primary powder for it, but as with everything covid related now, no one is selling any. No one seems to have any online or they sell it only for store pickup half way across the country. My understanding is that it’s best qualities, besides being a little hotter and consistent, is that it’s cleaner burning. Is there anything on the market that is comparable to black horn? Or is it like 9mm, “just better put that gun away and wait till 2022 or 2023 to start looking for it”.
4 AnswersHunting3 months agoGreen tries to impeach Biden? Really?
“Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has filed articles of impeachment against Joe Biden the day after he was inaugurated as president.”
I guess she was like “Biden has been a HORRIBLE President for the last/only 24 hours of his administration. He hasn’t done one thing to support my Q-nut constituency.”
Neither America nor the Republican Party can get back on track if we continue to let the quacks drive the bus.
9 AnswersPolitics3 months agoSo we finally see what these folks are all about?
These “protestors” tore down an American flag from the capital building and replaced it with a TRUMP flag. I think that says it all. So call “patriots” shouting “USA!” while breaking and entering and vandalizing one of the greatest symbols of America. Actions speak louder than words. Assaulting police and security. Security tried to barricade the doors of the main floor with furniture to attempt to keep rioters out. Media folks were assaulted. Threatening the lives of our government leaders sending them fleeing for their lives. You can’t be a real patriot while attacking our capital building, one of the greatest symbols of American democracy. I don’t care if they wore American flag print jackets and shouted “USA!” They assaulted our American system, our symbols, our traditions. Is that being a patriot? Or is that being a TRAITOR.
6 AnswersPolitics4 months agoPresidential transition: Uncharted waters?
So ALL the former Secretary of Defensives (10), both Democrat AND Republican, have signed a letter that cautioned Trump on using the military in any way to counter or contest the election or inhibit the transition of power. Unprecedented.
They warned that any military personnel (I’m sure aimed primarily at higher ranking officers) who participated in such actions could face criminal liability.
Wow this worries me. If they feel compelled to make such a statement, how close is Trump to actually taking such action? And just as frightening is that his supporter base would likely cheer such a coup on; cheer the attempted destruction of our democracy. That’s a lot of Americans who seem willing to cheer for a demagogue more than they cherish democracy itself. Scary times.
4 AnswersPolitics4 months agoRussian cyber hack?
Our intelligence agencies are calling this possibly the worst hack in US history. The hack was discovered when the Russians were found trying to hack into US nuclear weapons facilities and is now known to have attacked multiple US security agencies. This should be the top priority for Trump to be working on today, or at least one of the top two (covid). And it certainly requires some sort of response.
What are that chances that Trump is ACTUALLY working on this problem...at all? Heaven forbid he has to sit through intelligence briefings on what his old buddy Putin is up to or worse have to make the decision to take action that would hit him back. I’m betting we won’t hear a peep from Trump on this topic, but we will probably hear lots more today about how the democrats are being mean to him and conspiring against HIS election. Making America Great Again...not.
6 AnswersPolitics4 months agoSwamp cooler question ?
I have an old rusty swamp cooler that I inherited when I bought our house. It was already in sad shape and some metal areas rusted through, but it’s worked the last couple summers. This summer I got it set up to run (after winterizing it last fall) and I noticed a leak. It’s a roof mounted unit. I think Leak is coming from the tub somewhere where the tub meets the base that the unit sits on. There’s a lot of calking around the entire base of it and I think it’s coming from here. It’s not the drain plug or water line. The tub isn’t overflowing. Is it possible to just calk the seems? It’s not dripping in the house. Just onto the roof. Every year I keep saying “this will be its last” “it won’t survive another summer”, but like a champ it chugs on. Replacing it is not in the immediate future (funds wise).
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs11 months agoBackpacking Freeze dried foods?
Just a backpacking question that I’ve found no internet answer to. Can you take freeze dried peas and grind them into powder and carry that powder with you? Will you be able to just add the peas to water and boil up a quick cup of split pea soup?
What about a dried or freeze dried tomato powder for tomato soup?
9 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 year agoIs Chicken pox a sickness of the past?
Silly question, but I just learned that there is such a thing as a chicken pox vaccine. My kid will be getting it soon. By the way, I'm pro vaccine, but that's not the point.
I've never heard of a vaccine for it. I was just thinking that, like every other kid in America since forever ago, he would have to get chicken pox. Its like puberty. Everyone has to go through it. I grew up in the 80s and my folks took me to 2 chicken pox parties when I was little and didn't get it. Visited a cousin whose kids were having it when I was in high school and bam! Got it.
Sorry. This seems silly. but when did this earth shattering event take place? What else have I missed? A cure for acne?
10 AnswersInfectious Diseases1 year agoAnyone have a Charter Arms Off Duty or Undercover Lite? Undercoverette or Taurus?
I’m mostly a semi auto shooter now (but grew up shooting SAA 45s) but have recently become interested in the concept of a “pocket revolver” as a BUG. Not meant to replace a primary. Not many options out there. A light weight sub J Frame size 32 mag would be perfect, but seems there is nothing in that niche. Not really interested in going to NAA Minnie’s.
Anyways just wondering about the felt recoil (yeah I know that’s subjective) on the undercover lite or the off duty. A 38 Sp +p in a 12 ounce frame seems ultra punishing. Maybe changing out the grips might help. Is this a terrible snubby? Is the 16 ounce undercover better despite being heavier to pocket? I imagine sticking entirely with regular non+p 38 ammo for this weight level.
I’ve also been looking at their Undercoverette but their 12 ounce version only comes in feminine colors so no thanks. Also looked at Taurus M380 which seems to be the only one that is slightly smaller than standard J Frames, is 15 ounces, but fires 380acp. Not a fan of needing moon clips but do like that availability and options of ammo is far greater than 32 magnum. Either caliber seem better options than 38 so +p for a light weight snubby especially since not meant to be a primary carry.
How bad is the recoil in these models verses say an M&P shield 9 or Sig 226 or 1911?
3 AnswersHunting2 years agoSwap Cooler issues. Trying to troubleshoot the pump.?
Hi all. So I installed a new pump (that pulls water up from the pan and saturates the pads). The pump runs in the “pump only” setting saturating the pads like its supposed to. But when I switch the dial over to either “low cool” or “high cool” the pump continues to pump water into the pads. It never shuts off. The pump doesn’t run in the 2 “vent” settings (which it shouldn’t so that’s good). Any ideas?
By the way, what’s the difference between the cool settings and the vent settings? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs2 years agoRegular sized Frosted Wheats?
Just curious. I was eating mini frosted wheats when I thought about this. I can’t remember the last time I have seen the regular full sized frosted wheats. They were about twice the length of the mini’s.
If they were discontinued shouldn’t they rebrand the Mini’s as ‘regular’ considering they are the new norm and not “mini” any more?
1 AnswerOther - Food & Drink2 years agoBarocook heaters with german M31 mess kit?
I was wondering if you could use the barocook heaters in the old 3 piece German military mess kits. Seems you could drop a heater with water in the main saucepan, set the second bowl/cup inside with the food, and then put the lid/pan on top. Does the heater give off noxious fumes? Would the good need to be in a bag or package to avoid the gasses from the heater? Would MRE heaters be better? I’m just toying with the idea rather than going out and buying a plastic barocook kit.
2 AnswersCamping3 years agoDenver garden pests question?
I live in Denver and I have a loosing battle with something that is eating my garden plants. I don't know what they are but they look like flees to me. Real tiny so that i can't really make out what they really look like. I would take a picture of them and post it but they are the size of black pepper flakes. You wouldn't see much. They have eaten practically every leaf from my beans, squash, pumpkin, watermelon, cucumber, radishes, basil, and mint. All that remain are stems. The only things they don't seem interested in are corn, tomatoes, peppers, onions and rosemary. I have tried spraying water infused with hot pepper and water infused with tobacco. Is there pesticide that anyone would recommend? I try to go all natural but my usual methods aren't working. I have never had this problem before but this is my first time gardening in this region. I also see earwigs occasionally, but there are no grasshoppers around. No rabbits either, my dog makes sure of that. They would go nuts if there was a rabbit around. Any thoughts? Possible solutions?
1 AnswerGarden & Landscape3 years agoHow do you turn captions off?
I have Roku. YouTube and Amazon both have subtitles on which is annoying. I have gone through Roku, through amazon and YouTube, even through the TV itself making sure captions are off in all programs but nothing fixes it. What am I missing?
1 AnswerTVs3 years agoWhere have all the Strike Anywhere Matches gone?
I ve noticed through the years that strike anywhere matches have gotten hard to find. They used to be pretty ubiquitous but I haven t seen any in any grocery store or even the hardware store. Everything is strike on box only. The strike anywhere were perfect for camping. You could strike them on a rock. Now with the strike on box stuff I actually have to keep the sandpaper portion of the box with them, otherwise you re pretty dead in the water without that. I can t remember the last time I saw any. Why so hard to find?
3 AnswersCamping3 years agoBersa thunder 380 recoil?
I've been considering buying a Bersa. I guess I've been bit by the history of the PPK but am not willing to pay those prices for a little 32 or 380. I am trying to find someone who has a Bersa to try it out. In the mean time I've been looking at reviews. Thing is, there are a lot of folks out there who say "soft shooter" or "very low recoil" and "not very snappy" but for every two of those kinds of articles I see I also find one that says "really snappy" and "stings the hand every time i shoot" and "nice to shoot but hurts after going through a box." That is a crazy range of opinions. I don't know if perceptions are really that far apart or maybe its just what brand or wieght of rounds they are using. I have a m&p shield 9mm that wieghs slightly less. I don't consider the shield too bad at all. Is the Bersa recoil and snap about the same? I would assume it would be less since its about the same size, a little heavier (at least according to the stats) and is firing a smaller round. Yes I know that its a blowback and they tend to have more recoil. Anyone have experience with the Bersa?
6 AnswersHunting4 years agoHow long do carrots actually last in fridge?
I'm not talking about Best Used By. Dates are usually too conservative too me and causes food waste. My family has a history of food preservation and making things last from the garden till spring like potatoes so throughout away carrots after the Use Date seems wasteful to me. What are the signs they are really done? Odor? Color?
11 AnswersOther - Food & Drink4 years agoDifference Sheriff vs city vs state police?
I'm fuzzy on what the differences are. My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that city police are limited to city limits, and that state police are limited to state limits. I am also under the assumption that state police can't perform their duties within a city because that's the city police jurisdiction. Further a sheriff patrols the county, but isn't that redundant is that state cops already do that and more? Also why are sheriffs elected but police are hired? Having an election process and "running" for sheriff makes it seem like any person can run because it's about getting elected. I assume they have to have some law enforcement training but if they are elected that makes me wonder. I'm just curious because my town is in the middle of a fight right now with some people wanting to abolish the sheriff department as redundant since we already have a police department and we are a small city /town of 20k people and we are the only town in the county.
