Where were these Biblical places? [Gilead and Ophir]?
Gilead famed for its balm, mentioned in Genesis and Jeremiah and Ophir for its gold. I think that Gilead was in the northern part of modern Jordan [please confirm, give modern name, and are scents/spices etc still grown there?]. I have no idea where Ophir was.

Gilead a region believed to be in modern Jordan as you say. Lots of controversy about Ophir. Various locations in India have been proposed, but I find it most entertaining that the Solomon Islands northeast of Australia are called the Solomon Islands because their European discoverer thought they must be Ophir (mentioned in Song of Solomon).

Many scholars think that Ophir was on the west coast of India. Other suggestions include Africa Zimbabwe or Ethiopia.
