What is the correct dosage of Tramadol to treat a dog with hip dysplasia? The dog is 55 pounds.?

Update:

I read all kinds of dosages on the web and have taken her to the vet, whose dosage is much higher than I expected. I tried her on the vet's recommendation, but the side effects are bothering her, so I lowered her dose a little. I just wanted to know what your opinion was before going to a different vet. I want to go in reasonably well informed. There must be some caring people here who have had this experience with their dogs.

a 50 mg pill. But I wouldn't use it every day. You need to use carprofen or aspirin. Aspirin MUST be given with food as carprofen should. 1 adult aspirin 2 times a day

My opinion is that I discuss my dog's medical issues and prescriptions with my Vet. My opinion is that 99% of the people who answer on Yahoo are well meaning but haven't studied Veterinary medicine.

    The other 1% are jerks.

Ask the treating vet. As it would depend on the medical condition of the dog in question for the correct dosage And we cannot ascertain that not being qualified informed vets.

Whatever the directions say on the prescription bottle that was prescribed from your Vet. If you don't have a prescription for this for your dog, do NOT medicate your dog with something that was prescribed to you, and don't say your dog has Hip Dysplasia if your Vet hasn't confirmed this via x-ray.

The amount that was prescribed by your vet. Do realize that Tramadol is generally useless on its own in dogs and is prescribed in combination with an anti-inflammatory medication. Some vets believe tramadol is of very limited effectiveness in dogs even with an anti-inflammatory medication. I've had it prescribed to two pets. In my experience it is a completely useless drug with no effect.

Whatever your vet says, just like the last time you asked.
