My English Springer Spaniel has had a bad reaction to the antibiotics she was prescribed for an infection of her docked tail. Help?
Lily's tail was not docked properly, and no skin-flap covers the tip of the bone, so occasionally, she will scrape it on something and the scrape can become infected. Antibiotics which are penicillin-based seem to make her very ill (vomiting, diarrhea). A friend suggested sulfa drugs, but which ones? I live in a remote part of Mexico and veterinary care is only for large farm animals here ... they let dogs fend for themselves (seriously!).

You'll need to get a veterinarian to re-dock the tail shorter and so that the skln covers the bone. This will cause your dog a lot of pain but it will be better than dying of infection from the badly done tail. Do NOT give your dog any drugs that you don't know how to use safely. Find a vet that can do the job for you and get it done right.
