Would a Vintage Muddy Fox make a good touring bike?

I bought a Vintage Muddy Fox Courier Comp for $60. It is a fixer upper, the gears are harsh and it makes a squeaking sound when you pedal. I am not good with bikes, so I don't know where the sound comes from. But it works very well.

The description of what it takes to be a touring bike (Solid Frame, the geometry, etc.) is great, but like I said, I am not too good with bikes. I am trying to make a budget touring bike, and so far I am doing well. But I have this feeling that the bike I chose isn't the right decision.

I thought I may get an expert's opinion.

There re almost no bikes that can be considered "vintage" and your bike is not one of them.

Bikes should be virtually silent as you are pedaling. The noises you hear are probably from lack of maintenance. Take it to a bike shop and have it checked out. The mechanic will be able to give you a good idea of what it needs.

We all have made errors in the purchase of something. This is why you should always seek the advice of a professional that will take the time to talk with you and get you what you need rather than just guessing.

No, and not just because you said 'vintage'.

For touring, get a proper touring bike.
