why would a social worker want to date her client?

I started dating this guy about three months ago 9 he has a sketchy past but is doing very well. His ex (who he dated on and off for 8 years) is 20 years oler than him, has a masters degree in social work, and is rich. She is also absolutely stunning. She started dating him when he was 20 years old and into drugs big time although she was married. My boyrfriend has a mental illness and did not have much to offer in the relationship but she was madly in love with him. Not only do I find this innappropriate on her part (she was married AND his social worker) but what did she see in a man so much younger than her when he was into drugs?

I don't know. Ask her. As you you said it seems inappropriate and was definitely unethical. I can't imagine you expected anyone to give you an accurate answer. People do things for different reasons. I have met mental health workers who talk about and degrade their clients behind their backs. They treat it almost like a social activity. Regardless, of whether it is among other professionals of the same practice, it is still offensive. I, for one, became wary of those same doctors and counselors. When people do that, you begin to wonder whether they are walking out of the office and mocking you as well. My point is, you can't really tell what individuals are thinking. The one you mentioned seems really unorthodox. If you really want an answer, ask the two people involved in it and not the people online.
