how do they cope with the fact that they will die?

    it had to do with their culture really, they did not view death in the same way as we do. the japanese society values (or did at least... i am not sure how they are doing on this one currently) honor above anything else. And it was considered very Honorable to die in service to their emperor. Therefore being a kamikaze was more of an honor than something they felt overly compelled to do.
