Does anyone truly believe that a NFL lockout will help the CFL's exposure in the US?
If so, why do you believe that?
@ The Raven. That's a good point, but it's also why I don't believe it will help. There are already alternative football sources that exist in the US. If anything, a lockout will pump up High School and possibly even Arena League numbers before it helps the CFL. The lockout may help the CFL get a tv deal for this season, but that's about it.
@ Brett...good point. I suppose I should have used the word "popularity" instead of "exposure".

I'm sure the CFL is paying attention to the NFL lockout. But I don't see the CFL signing any deals with ESPN, CBS, NBC or FOX. The main reason is because the NFL lockout can be resolved any day. If the CFL did sign a deal and the NFL ended the lockout, the network they signed with will probably break the contract with the CFL and that's when the lawyers get involved. College football is not affected by the lockout. I'm sure some of the networks I listed might push the NCAA to move some games to Sunday if the lockout does go into the season.
I think the CFL has a good thing going with the NFL Network(if they're going to air games this year). They could reach a deal with the regional sports channels. That's highly unlikely.

It's unlikely that CFL exposure south of the border will grow because of the lockout. I don't think it will effect Canadians watching the CFL either, because if you want to watch Canadian football up here, you will, and if you don't want to, you won't. SOME people might just to watch some kind of football, but the overlap of CFL and NFL is pretty short anyway, so most people who would have been too busy following the NFL to watch CFL would have missed most of the regular season by the time the NFL gets to Week 1. And they're two different games to watch, CFL games do tend to take more patience to watch, if you're used to NFL but not CFL, you might not enjoy it quite as much.

It'll probably help the CFL's popularity in Canada because 80% of Canadian football fans watch the CFL and 55% follow the NFL.

ever heard of college football? that sh*t is NUTS! college football is arguably more popular than the nfl. not to rain on your parade, but since a lot of nfl fans, like me, are college football fans, i dont expect any significant change in the usa viewing the cfl. plus, nfl games are going to still be played. thats the #1 misconception. the difference is that usually stars in the nfl dont usually play or are very scarce during a lockout.

It doesn't make any difference, since CFL teams make their money from selling tickets and TSN. Anything they get from US TV rights is gravy, but that is never going to amount to much.

if that happens then canadian games will probably be aired more come august, sept, oct and nov. so yeah it will definetly get more exposer. arena will be over and high school doesnt have the infostructue college will be helped but still...

Yes since there are already areas where even high school football is far more popular than over paid NFL teams.

not impossible but I highly doubt it since americans lacks interest and open-mindedness in every aspect of our country, they don't give a **** about what lies north of the border, mainly because all what they care about, is their country and their FOOTBALL.
