4 1/2 month old with RSV...?

I'm just curious how long RSV takes to run its course. The breathing treatments are awful for her, she cries (which is actually helping the medicine get to her lungs) and tries to pull the mask off and tries to clamp the cord.

Any advice on how to make her more comfortable with the breathing treatments would be greatly appreciated.

my daughter is 4 months old and we just left the hospital yesterday she has RSV.

we were there from saturday to thursday she was on oxygen the whole time and now she is on oxygen at home. id say it take a week and a half or two to get thru there systems.

u could ask the doctor if they have another way to give the breathing treatments, at our hospital they gave them to her by blowing it in her face and didn't put anything actually on her face, and she was fine with that she just watched it. otherwise just cuddle her and try to comfort her while she gets them, or you could give it to her while she is sleeping or just hold it in front of her face

i hope she gets better soon:)

I have to agree with Derrick, my son and my daughter both needed breathing treatments as infants, i found that doing it when they are sleeping works best. My son had infant asthma and my daughter was a preemie, she had chronic respiratory issues. You don't have to use the mask, i just used the mouth piece and held it in front of their face, it was less traumatic for them when they were awake. They still get the same amount of medicine into their lungs.

I never had to deal with RSV as when my daughter was born i had a nurse that came to the house every month for 2 winter seasons to give her a shot, its called Synagis. The Dr's office ordered it, it was mailed to my house. I had so many other lung problems with her instead.

I hope your little one feels better soon!

RSV last generally 1 to 2 weeks. But Ive heard of cases that last up to 3 if theyre severe.

Breathing treatments are difficult, I know:( My daughter never had RSV but she had repeated respiratory infections for the first couple years after she was born, and was always on them..

Have you tried giving it to her while shes asleep? People told me it would wake my daughter up, but I tried doing it while she was napping anyway..It worked and it didnt wake her up..

Good luck, hope she feels better soon!!

Try waiting until she is asleep and holding the mask in front of her mouth n nose. The meds will be inhaled as she breathes naturally. I used that method with my exes little girl. If that isn't a method you want to use try to distract her with toys and what not, keys are a good choice. If she is paying attention to something else it my help keep her calm.
