Obesity in USA/Canada:how do "they" know?

I agree that we see lots of overweight people around, however where does Government get their actual figures from? No-one has ever called me in any survey to ask my weight. How about you?

In Canada, the information can be obtained from the Canadian Institute of Health Information. They get it from people's medical records. I used to work in medical records with people who compiled health statistics like that. But even then, it sounds like a guess, in my opinion, since it's only from people who needed to see the doctor for something. Like you said, it's not like everyone gets called to volunteer that information.
