Young travel companion?

My girlfriends and I are all talking about a trip to Italy for our 30th birthdays. We love wine and sight-seeing and clubs...

My 19 year old cousin wants to join us. Would she be able to do the same things as us? What age limits are there on drinking, nightclubs, etc?

She will have no restrictions. My 14 year old daughter was served wine in restaurants last summer. I asked about legal ages for clubs and was told that if the club admits people under age 18, they have to close at 2 AM, but if it is 18 and over - they can stay open until 5 AM.

The drinking age in Italy is 16, tho there is quite an uproar right now about changing it to 18. But do consider the 11 yr age difference is significant and her likes and dislikes could be quite a bit different from yours. So be sure you would be happ traveling together.

lol wow I feel old... I'm 35 and to be honest wouldn't think a 19 year old is going to have such a radically different world view to my own... but judging by the first two answers apparently we're light years apart!

Anyway.... don't worry about it - I can't think of anything your cousin couldn't do - I'm sure she'll be fine, and you'll all have a wonderful time. It's a beautiful country with lovely people - have a fun trip! :)

bringing the youngin would be okay if shes looking to be with more mature fun loving ladies. it might be a nice way to show her how to be a mature woman and how to deal with situations while traveling. the drinking is fine, wine is given with lunch, and its not cool to get wasted in italy. italy is amazing for siteseeing and walking tours. dont worry about her being able to get in with y'all, worry about her sulking for her boyfriend(s) or hating the museums or whatever teens do. if she is not like that, bring her and show her how to act properly by being good role models and you might change her life forever!

dont miss naples and amalfi, rome, siena, cinque terra, venice if you need to see the canals(but expensive and theres no locals anymore).
