Is there anything "homemade" that can be added to the water of fresh cut flowers to help extend their life?

I buy one or two every so often (for cheap) and the florist I buy from doesn't include that "little packet" to extend the life of the flowers. I was wondering if anyone knew the ingredients of these "packets" so that maybe I could cook up a home remedy to prevent premature wilting??

Thanx in advance, all!!

    Homemade Flower Preservative

Home mixes can be as effective as commercial preservatives. This easy-to-make recipe is a favorite.

    1 teaspoon sugar

    1 teaspoon household bleach

2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice

    1 quart lukewarm water

I observed a television coach section as quickly as the place they examined diverse "tricks" like aspirin, sugar, the little packet, etc. and the element that saved the vegetation looking their best the longest replaced into to thoroughly substitute the water on a daily basis. Use heat water, with the intention to not ask your self the vegetation. If i purchase vegetation and positioned across domicile to rearrange, I positioned them in heat water interior the sink and decrease their stems underwater, at an perspective so they can't take a seat against the backside of the vase and not draw water. some vegetation have stems that weep, and those end cuts are meant to be sealed to as to not contaminate the water wherein they're placed.

Adding a little bit of sugar, sprite or 7-up (because of their sugar content) to the water will help extend the life of cut flowers. Don't use other sodas because the caramel coloring, caffeine, and other ingredients has the opposite effect -- and will cause the flowers to wilt more quickly.
