Excuse me (in advance) for being so computer illiterate, but why do I keep getting the following warning...?

Warning: "A script on this page has been stopped due to a low memory condition". Anyone know what this means and how I can remedy the problem?

This appears to be a problem because when this error message pops up, things disappear on my computer, like my "home icon" or the "refresh icon". Before this happens, my computer seems to take bloody forever to load pages.

Heeeeelp?! ;-) :-).

I love anyone who might be able to help. LOL. Seriously, mucho time and money saved with some advice, so hoping someone knows something about this :-). Now, I just hope I've put this in the correct category. *Sheesh* :-).

BTW: I have a laptop, if that makes any difference.

Update:

Thanx, John C, but your link didn't work. If you end up editing your answer, may I ask how this scan specifically relates to my problem and how it would resolve it? Sounds fishy.

Update 2:

Thanx, ItsJareds :-). Man, I JUST installed the latest version of Firefox the other day and started having this problem. Sounds like what you are saying is that the latest version fixes this problem, though? So, this is interesting.

I appreciate your comments about "memory", too. Indeed, I thought the warning message WAS referring to hard disk storage. I have lots of hard disk storage. In any event, this does happen when I'm running maybe 2 or 3 applications. Maybe that is too many? IDK. Never seemed to be, before, now.

I hope to heck it's not my computer. Can't really afford to take it in.

Update 3:

I just skimmed your link, ItsJareds. Thanx, man. Looks like it IS Firefox. Maybe there will be an update, soon, to remedy it, since updating the latest version didn't help. I just followed your instructions and I AM running the latest version.

Update 4:

Thanx, Bert H :-). I have a lot of RAM.

And, about giving good info to get good answers. Well, that would require *knowing* a little more than the average Joe about computers, yes? And, hmmm, well, I don't---sad. Very sad, but true, *especially* in light that I obviously use one with, at least, some efficiency (?). I don't know how I manage. LOL.

Update 5:

Thanx, Arsham EQ :-): I just have some microsoft.net framework thing, a java quickstarter (this can't be uninstalled, apparently), and an AVG safesearch thing (which also can't be uninstalled). Guess I could get rid of the microsoft ad-on. How will getting rid of these help?

Update 6:

Thanx for the link to that Q, too :-). I deleted my temp internet files and got rid of that add-on, and did a scan--no virus or anything...See if getting rid of that add-on will make a diff...

Update 7:

Found a different way to access add-ons. Seems I have all kinds of crap on my computer. Some questionable ones that were marked "not verified" I disabled. Well, see if that'll work...

Update 8:

Thanx very much for your addendum, Arsham EQ :-). I've been reviewing add-ons. They seem to be separated by those "used without my permission", "downloaded", and "used by my browser". I just got rid of all those "used without my permission". So, we shall see. I'll give it a few days. But, haven't had any lags nor that warning message, thus far. You may have indeed saved me so much time and $$$ attempting to remedy this :-) :-). Many smiles and much appreciation for your kindness and knowledge :-) :-).

Update 9:

I'm also doing a defrag. My computer tells me it is needed, so maybe this will help, too. I don't know ;-).

Update 10:

Oh, thanx again, Arsham EQ for your comments :-). I wasn't sure if the defrag had anything to do with RAM. Now I know ;-).

I'll let you know if the problem is resolved in a day or two. I want to give it some time. *Seems* to be remedied, though (?) particularly after I got rid of some add-ons. I don't know how to check my RAM, though, to know that it had indeed done anything....

Anyhow, I shall let ya know :-) :-). Thanx, again!!

Update 11:

Arsham. LOL, thanx, once again for the info. My computer IS working better. I am thinking that you are right and the problem might be solved.

I did not see your secret the first time I read, but then went back and saw it right away!! Very clever and cute!! :-) :-).

Thanx for all your kindness :-).

In addition to what ItsJared said above I would like to say > Gently get ride of any Mozilla Add-ins you have on your laptop. Also check out the following link :

    Updated .. No.1 >

You are the most polite questioner I have ever seen here.. it is all good .. I really appreciate it.

you don't need to uninstall the things you named .. all you need to do is to go to Firefox > Tools Menu > Add-ons >Check out list of Add-ons you have installed or bot verified .. Disable or Uninstall if there is any.. You need to restart Firefox after that *not the computer* ...

When you run an application like Firefox , it goes to RAM with all the additional Add-ons attached to the program.. Add-on take place in RAM too .. so the goal is to run Firefox lighter.

I am waiting for the results :)

    Updated .. No. 2 >

Your welcome .. "Doing a defrag" > it is such a brilliant idea for a better performance. However, defrag will make your hard disk working better and doesn't do anything with RAM.

I don't usually come back to my answers but I think I liked to know how you solved the problem .. or support more if you need it. Thanks for smiling at me.. I should smile at you in return :) ;) . Buzz me whenever you need any help or talk.. My Yahoo Messenger ID > famous_sh

    Final Update :

RAM is a temporary data storage . So you cannot check clusters. Windows is able to show you RAM available and used space, that's all . Alt+Control+Delete > Performance Tab > Check out Physical Memory.

"to know that it had indeed done anything" > You already got ride of add-ons so you cannot compare the current situation with the past. Maybe you want to Reinstall junk add-ons :)) .. kidding ..

You may wait but i should confess that ....... > The probLem is sOlVEd by YOU ..

Are you able to find the secret in the last paragraph ? I am serious .. are you ?

The answer is in your first sentence, 'low memory condition'.

    What does that mean?

It means you're low on RAM (Random Access Memory).

    What's that?

When you click an icon or an application file, it first gets stored in RAM for quick access. If that didn't happen, all info to run the app would be loaded from the HDD (Hard Disk Drive. That would be extremely slow because the HDD has moving parts, the RAM chips do not.

Normally if you run out of RAM space, the OS (Operating System) uses the HDD as RAM and that's why it goes slow. If you're down on HDD space, the program has no place to be stored and ya git lotsa perobelems. ;-)

How do I fix this conundrum?

Easy, git more RAM, be sure you git the same speed and type as you now have, like DDR2 at 666 MHz (Megahertz).

What do I do when I have it?

Most decent laptops have an easy removable cover on the bottom of the lappy, remove cover and replace or add the RAM making sure they are seated properly (in place).

    What if that don't work?

Donate the old junk to a community center or use it only for 'Solitaire' or 'Notepad'.

    ;-)

PS: Ya shudda gave us more info, like 'what's under the hood', so to speak.

If ya want good answers, give good info.

Yes, this is definitely a Firefox issue. I reported (1) the bug for Windows (XP and 7) which has been fixed since Firefox 3.5. If you do not already have the latest version of Firefox (or if you aren't sure), please go to Help > Check for updates. If there is an alert about a later version of Firefox, go ahead and install it. This should solve your problem.

If not, Firefox may be correct in saying that you in fact ARE running low on memory. Memory is NOT hard disk storage space, which means it is not that you have too much data on your computer. You could possibly be running too many applications at one time if you still receive this problem after updating Firefox.
