Scalp Peeling After Hair Dye?

I've always had dry scalp, with itching and flakiness. But last saturday I got my hair cut and dyed at my salon.

As of wednesday it was peeling a bit, but I figured it was just slightly drier than usual, which I expected.

As of today, my entire scalp is peeling, and a bit sore. It looks like the same peeling you get from a sunburn. My scalp doesn't look red, or irritated, or burned. Though, its hard to tell because my hair was dyed red - so my scalp could be a bit red and I can't tell against my hair.

Is this likely an allergic reaction, or more of a chemical burn?

I've read what some people have said and disagree with several. It is NOT because they left the color on to long. Color stops processing after 30 minutes or so. And DO NOT use Pantene! Pantene builds up on your hair and leaves it a mess. It is the worse shampoo you can use. Have your hairdresser do a conditioning treatment. This usually only costs a few dollars (less than $5). It is not the hairdressers fault. It could be a chemical burn, but it will go away soon. I always told my daughters, Beauty is painful! It's sad what we go through to make ourselves look good. I have my hair colored a lot and I'm allergic to the coloring. It leaves my scalp itchy and flaky for a few weeks. So chances are, it's an allergic reaction. Chemical burns, which I sometimes get on my neck, burn. Burn ointment helps that. However, if you do normally have a dry, itchy scalp, try Listerine. Most people do not know about this, but it truly does wonders for dry spots and itching of the scalp. Just use a piece of cotton, saturate it with Listerine, and dab it all over the scalp. Good luck!

The chemical burned your scalp. You should put on some hair oil on scalp and massage scalp.

I think a doctor or maybe a hairdresser would have to examine it to say for sure. It seems that if it were a chemical burn, it would have been burning during the application. You may need to see a doctor. In the meantime, try some very cool water on it to soothe it and you might try a small amount of hydrocortisone cream in one area that bothers you to see if it helps.

They left the dye in too long and it burned your scalp. Go back to the salon and show them you can get your money back, and they can give you something to treat it

more than likely it's an allergic reaction or a light chemical reaction. if it was a severe chemical reaction it would have hit you a lot sooner :-) hope this helps you!

this could go either way to be safe go to the salon and see what they say, then go straight to the emergency room so a doctor could also have a look at it. and if it was something that the salon did they must pay for all the damages.
