How do I get him on board with a lifestyle change?

I recently embarked on getting myself back into a healthier life style. I lost my way for a year or two - and now I've gotten pretty into it.

Now my fiance isn't overweight. He does have a few extra pounds on, but they don't bother me. However, I never realised just how unhealthy he is eating. I am worried about his health in the future if he keeps eating like he is, it doesn't seem to concern him, though.

Is there anything I can do to encourage him to become healthier?

I don't expect him to do a complete 180, but making healthier choices once or twice a day is a good start. I have been doing as much healthy cooking as I can, but I still find myself making my meal, and then extra side dishes for him. And if I dont cook it, he will.

Is there anything I can do, or do I just have to leave it alone?

Update:

We do eat healthy basics. We've always eaten whole wheat everything.

But lets say I make dinner, one serving of meat, lots of veggies and a starch. He'll take the meat. And if he gets hungry later he'll fill up on chips.

Or he'll make up a whole batch of chicken wings. His beverage of choice is beer. He LOADS his food with salt.

He's always been more of a snacker than a meal eater, so it's really hard to have much input on what he eats when it's snacks all the time.

I'd just be happy if he made the switch to salt alternatives, use my light butter/margaine and cheese and stuff like that. But, nope!

    Hi there,

Thats a difficult one, I can understand why you want him to eat healthier - but you know that its got to be because he wants to do it.

How about discussing it or if he won't compromise on food may be go to the gym with you as a couple so you can get well together

May be talk to him about how you feel and see if you can compromise say with healthy eating days on may be monday wednesday and fridays its a start and it will make you happy and keep him happy so he can still eat what he likes the rest of the week so long as he excercises - what do you think ?

try introducing one thing at a time.

If you make pasta, try a whole grain pasta with an organic pasta sauce.

If you guys eat bread, try a whole grain bread.

What kinds of things does he eat? knowing that will help me to make suggestions.

With men it takes longer but you just have to keep trying.
