SINCE All cars in JAPAN share the SAME Suppliers they are NEARLY all equal! They ALL use AISIN WARNER trannies, and the SAME brake makers, and the SAME interior materials and the SAME seat suppliers! >>SUBARO owners RARELY give them up! They LAST very very well and use engines copied from PORSCHE, TOYOTA had One FAILIURE the YARIS! I do NOT care for the CVT tranny in the NISSAN but OLDER ones were BETTER to me! PEOPL that have MAZDAS swear by them and FORD FUSIO uses the MAZDA power train an they get 33 MPG all day long! The FUSION is a GREAT CAR< btw, and FORD EDGE uses HALF FORD and HALF AUDI in it! I have RESTORED at least THIRTY older BMW to SHOWROOM RUNNING and they are EXCELLENT as well! SUZUKI had some VERY BAD jeep like b vehicles and GM bought them and put their GM logo on them along with DAEWOO and HOLDEN of AUSTRALIA and even TURBO OPEL engines in the CRUZE! >>HONDA had issues with TIMING BELTS that cause VALVES to BEND if they BROKE! TOYOTA never had that issue I don't think! I would get the MAZDA first, then the TOYOTA but I LIKE OLDER CARS ANYWAYS, then the older NISSAN as they NOW use CVT trannies and I do NOT like them as much. The ones with a ZF trans are the BEST ones. I LOVE the STRENGTH of AUDI, BENZ and BMW cars the most! MOST auto technology CAME FROM THEM! ANY JAPANESE car is WORTHY and if you are SMART and use PENNZOIL ULTRA OILS, you will PREVENT WEAR and may NEVER need to replace ANY SENSORS at ALL! EVERY 100,000 miles change ALL THE FLUIDS from the DEALERSHIP ONLY! AND FLUSH and FILL the BRAKE FLUID every TWO YEARS< As it becomes LIQUID SANDPAPER and TOXIC WASTE as it gets DARKER and DARKER BROWN. I was GOING to write a BOOK on this stuff! NEVER got there!

The Mirage is widely regarded to be one of the worst cars in its class. Mitsubishi SUVs are decent, although they don't have as many advanced features as other makes.
If you are shopping in the Mirage class, I'd be looking at Toyota Yaris, Kia Rio or Hyundai Accents first. They are a little more money, but you would be getting a much better car.

I can only speak for Mazda. Had two, One bought new. Always start, always get there. Point A to B. AC works Great, so does cruise . The ent, center gets a glitch every now and then. Same for Fords'.
The M3 with "Skyactive" 2 liter is a bit Sluggish. Still, 46 MPG if U take it easy . Timing chain, No Belt. DOHC, juice lifters, No adjusting.
My one Toy left Bad taste in my mouth, world's Worst carburetor; but it was getting old. I won't buy a car earlier than a '96 because of parts difficulty; unless it's a '69 Charger or something.
My one Honda ate a valve. Still, if I'd replaced T. belt When I bought it...I now immediately replace All belts/hoses on any used car,

Hardly a scientific survey because I’ve only had one of each, but I have owned a Honda, Toyota, Subaru and Mitsubishi. I had no reliability issues with any of them , the only thing quality wise I could say, is the paint on the Mitsubishi was of poor quality.
I only had it 2 years, so nothing corroded in that time, but I wouldn’t expect it to look pretty after 10 years or so.
The Mirage is a horrid little car though, way behind most of its rivals.

If bought brand new, they will be very reliable. These cars are workhorses in Southeast Asia and South Asia where they are affordable.

I worked at a Mits dealer for 6 years and enjoyed working on Mitsubishi's and owning them. They are just as reliable as other Asian made vehicles. However I wouldn't buy a Mirage.

Historically Mitsubishi was never a reliable brand while Toyota was on top followed by Honda, Subaru, and Nissan.
But Toyota and Honda had recent massive engine recalls as so has Nissan so today all the Japanese brands are much less reliable than their older models.
I would still rank Toyota #1
Honda #2
Subaru #3
Mazda #4
Nissan #5

When it comes to the Japanese manufacturers, I would rank them as follows:
Tied for 1st: Honda and Toyota
Tied for 2nd: Subaru and Mazda
Tied for 3rd: Nissan and Suzuki
The rest...Mitsubishi, Daihatsu...
