mitsubishi outlander sport 2013 serpentine belt wont go on ?

The only problem is that no matter how loosely I set the tensioner the belt still seems too tight to go over all of the pulleys. I've checked and it's the same length as the one that was already on it- I'm actually installing a new belt- but for whatever reason it simply does not seem to have enough give in it to stretch over the final pulley. I've followed the how-to posted on this forum and still can't seem to get it to work. Let me know if there's some kind of trick for getting it on. Thanks!

Check and double check if you have the right belt.

Make sure the belt is the correct one and that you're routing the belt correctly. Watch a youtube video for replacing it.

On that engine you have to loosen the pulley bolt too - the one on the center of the pulley. That's the one that locks it in position. Loosening the adjustment bolt on the side does nothing until you've loosened the center bolt. I'll bet you haven't done that.

Are you certain you are installing it correctly? Mechanics often sketch the belt position before they remove it. Click on the link and find the diagram that matches your pulley layout.
