Why do people defend Nazis by saying they followed orders? ?

There have been Nazis who killed children and got a few years in prison and got set free because apparently they followed orders.

When in reality these people were sadistic murderers.

    When the guy you replaced gets shot in the head for not following orders, that would kind of be incentive to follow immoral orders.

    It happens in all humans not just Nazis wars bring out the worst in all nations
