Why are Maricopa County Board of Supervisors fighting tooth and nail against the audit?

Maybe they liked the results of the audit so far but dare not risk another one.

For instance, so far, no audit has made reference to the high "adjudication rate" in the county. Ballots are adjudicated when they cannot be read properly by the machine. The rate in Maricopa was 12% so one in every eight ballots was sent to another person who decided what the ballot said and returned it. Were those unsupervised adjudicators completely unbiased?

Another issue is that an audit has its boundaries defined by the county officials. If they say do not check something then it is not checked in the audit. What  is really required is an investgigation.

For instance, Internet connectivity was supposedly checked. In reality the auditors looked for certain logs. The fact that the voting machines can remove or edit any logs was never mentioned.

Because they are paying a Qanon company 150K is taxpayer dollars.  My prediction is that they won't find any evidence either, but will report that there were "irregularities", or something equally non-specific which conservatives will cling to like a straw, if you will, claiming it "proves" there was fraud. 

They've already had three independent audits. And the one the State GOP wants is to be run by a fanatical Trump conspiracy advocate. It's a desperate attempt to find evidence supporting their slanderous accusations, to defend their voter suppression bills, and an excuse to avoid any actual business.

The audit of WHAT?  Phoenix.... yuck.
