Why did French President Macron give Elton John, a camp pop singer, the highest military honour of France?

    That beats me. Such an honor should go to someone who is brave or has made a substantial POSITIVE contribution to our world, not somoene who promote a strange lifestyle! The only answer I can think off is that he is yielding to peer pressure!

    Elton John has been awarded the Legion d'Honneur.

    This is France's highest CIVILIAN award. It is not exclusively military. 

    About a million (across five classes) have been awarded to date.

    Famous non-military recipients include: Victor Hugo, Gustave Flaubert, Salvador Dali and Edouard Manet.

    Oh, and Walt Disney.

    I'm not a fan at all but I'll admit he's a very skilled songwriter and musician in addition to being wildly popular. Seems like a better call than giving it to somebody who slaughtered Algerians or whatever.
