What do you think is the greatest piece of Instrumental music?

Update:

I will go for 'Murder' by New Order.

Honourable mention for 'Classical Gas' by Mason Williams.

Oh I forgot 'Elegia' by New Order again, I'll put it in 3rd place then(Ha Ha)

Update 2:

I'll open it up to albums which gives me a chance to mention.

'Without Mercy' by The Durutti Column.

Vini Reilly is a genuine unsung hero while Mike Oldfield flew around in a private jet you would find Vini in Manchester record shops having tea & toast( he was totally skint)

Chain LightinG you are only showing up in notifications you have only posted link no name or artist so can't do my own research. Cheers mate.

I agree with longshotsblues - best, greatest, etc. is pompous, especially in such a wide category as instrumental music. If you asked, "best song from the album" that could pass...

    I choose J.S.Bach - Toccata and Fugue D Minor

Instead of the original, I am going to post two covers. They are from the same year but from significantly different parts of the world at the time. Yet they can function together as a medley. Hard to beat a piece of music that can do that.

Orchestr Josefa Vobruby - Toccata A Fuga D Moll [CSSR 1978]

Walter Murphy - Toccata And Funk In D Minor [USA 1978]

I don't do best, greatest, etc. There is way too much. This is among my Fav.'s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKcI2mcsueM~Woodst... was epic but Tanglewood's performance a year later of "Soul Sacrifice" was the most outstanding. The arrangement notched up every musician's parts by a million. What Michael Schrieve did on a basic drum set could never be matched again by today's drummers with their 20 piece sets. ~This is what I listen to when I want to go back, get lost and set my soul free.
