behind the impaired driver -- well behind

that way you can see what he is doing and take steps not to become involved

OK so what would happen. You're working a late shift and get off at 2 am in the morning. It is also the time the bars all close. So it's just you and the drunks on the road. Now you have to get home so you have to be on the road. Where would you feel the safest?

If you're in front of the drunk driver he/she could slam into you by suddenly accelerating and whammo you're hit! So A is not a good answer.

OK, If you're alongside the impaired drunk driver then again, whammo, you're done! He/she just jerked the wheel uncontrollably and clobbered you. So B is not a good answer.

Alright so let's say you're looking ahead of you and you see this drunk driver weaving all over the road. Now how the hello are you going to pass this weaver on the other sid eof the road without getting hit. So you slow down and try it and whammo the drunk swerves thinking they are passing you and BANG, you're done! So C isn't such a hot answer either.

Now if you were driving BEHIND the drunk, the you can control your distance and you slow away down and let the punk get way ahead of you while you pull over and dial 911 and report the driver to the police giving them a description of the vehicle and the driver. Just stay way back and let the cops handle it. So your answer is D!
