Manual. There simply wasn’t the space in the roof to fit the drive mechanisms to make them automatic, and back then even power windows and power assisted steering were a great rarity on any car manufactured outside of the USA.
Even if the car had the space in the roof, Mercedes still would not have added that feature. They wanted to keep the car as light as reasonably practical with a low centre of gravity, and the weight added by powering the doors would all have been right at the highest part of the car: the worst possible place.
