First get a survey done on the proposed property because if there are hidden faults then you may not want to buy it.If you are having a mortgage the mortgage company will insist on a survey being done. Engage a solicitor or property conveyancer to handle the purchase and they will do all the work for you.

    My tip is...Never buy a house with a boyfriend/girlfriend.

    You'll need a minimum 10% deposit

You'll also need to factor in:

    - stamp duty (depends on whether you've owned a property before, and the value of the property you're buying

    - solicitor fees (around £1000)

    - moving costs

UK: Each of you should be saving up in individual 'help to buy' ISAs if you are first time buyers as individually you could get £3k meaning together £6k for free towards any deposit..however I would also advise you to get married before you purchase a house together

Pit mortgage? Never heard of that in the U.K.

You will need 5 to 10% of the asking price for a deposit and more for stamp duty depending on the price, and around 3K for Solicitors fees and searches.

Don't go with the Estate  agents Solicitors , they charge a bomb and get a kick back on the fees.

If any US answers, ignore Escrow, closing and other weird terms, we dont have that here.
