Whistler is white and covered in snow in winter, so the only thing to do is ski.

In summer you can ride bikes, hike and swim. Take your pick.

Lots of people have been to Whistler.

As a skier, most of my visits have been during the winter but I did go once in June for their final weekend for skiing that season. It was an interesting ride up the gondola as half the people had mountain bikes and the other half had skis or boards.

Being June, it was warm at the base ( 18 C ) but at the top it was -2 C and snowing. So we had shorts and t-shirts on with a snowsuit on top. You could ski the top 1/4 of the mountain before the snow became too slushy and wet and you had to take the gondola back down to get back into the village. After we finished skiing, we went back down, stripped out of the snowsuits, and sat down on a patio and drank some beer. It was kind of surreal to think we had been skiing all day while it was snowing but then minutes later, we were sitting on a patio in shorts and t-shirts, catching some rays, and enjoying a pitcher.

Whistler is a ski destination. Go in the winter, to ski. If you don't ski, go somewhere else.

If you want to ski, then summer is not good. If you want to hike or swim, winter is not good.

It depends on what your interests are. Obviously during the winter it is ski season and the busiest time of the year there. There are a variety of winter activities from skiing (downhill, heli-skiing, cross country) to snowboarding and snowmobiling. Of course the village is generally humming with a variety of restaurants and night life. During the winter it is basically all things snow related and many people spend the day skiing/snowboarding and the night partying or relaxing in one of several spas. Allowing for exceptions, the ski and snowboard season normally runs from the end of November to mid April although, as I said below, I have seen some hardy souls still boarding in early July.

During the summer it is, of course, completely different with a wide variety of outdoor activities. Less restaurants and nightclubs open but activities include white water rafting (rivers permitting), mountain biking as well as bike touring, canoeing, zip lines, hiking both in the valley and on the mountain (watch out for the bears) including a gondola ride up, as well as occasional street entertainers and other entertainment. In addition of course there are 4 golf courses available as well as a variety of lakes and rivers for fishing, swimming, and other water related activities..Depending on the temperature you may still find some snowboarding at the higher elevations (I have seen snowboards but no skis occasionally when I go in July). The weather itself can be changeable. I have been up there when there was still significant snow at the upper gondola base or times when the temperature in the village reached well into the low to upper 30's (Celsius) and it was bare up there although the alpine flowers were blooming.

If you enjoy art and first nations culture there is a nice art gallery there with a nice variety of art as well as a First Nations run cultural center where you can learn about the local native population and their history. Of course at all times of the year there is always shopping and Whistler, for it's size, offers a nice variety of items for the consumer.

Whistler is a year round resort with the quiet times in late Spring and early Fall. Just be aware that after Thanksgiving the gondola shuts down for about a month and reopens in mid to late November when the ski season starts and closes in late Spring for a similar period of time.
