Why my ex girlfriends friend wants all of us to start being friends again?

I dated this one girl long time ago. She broke up with me. It took her about 2 years to start dating again. She never really told me the reason why she wanted to break up. Her best friend told me that she was in love with me and that she was really heart broken when she left me. When i told her that i slept around with other girls she became really depressed and i think that's the reason why she broke up with me. About 8 years passed and i started to see my ex girlfriend at this one place. She always looks at me but doesn't come up to me to say hi. She just looks at me none stop and when i look back at her she quickly turns away. I started to hand out with her best friend and her best friend keeps telling me to go and say hi to her. She says she wants all of us to start being friends again. I was never really friends with my ex girlfriend best friend but out of know where she said she wants me and my ex girlfriend to be friends again. Can that mean anything when my ex girlfriend's best friend said she wants all of us to be friends again like before. Why would she tell me that when me and my ex girlfriend broke up 8 years ago.
