Custodial parent moved out of state with 19 year old son. Does child support get reordered? Legal standing of this?
Since 2001, I have been paying child support for my son out of an order from the Massachusetts courts. A few years later in 2005, the custodial parent moved to New Hampshire but the child support order stayed the same. In 2016, the child turned 18 but the child support continued the same. I also was told under Massachusetts law, child support continues until the age of 21. The child was living in New Hampshire at this time. Now the child is 19 and the custodial parent has moved, with no notification to me, to Texas. What are my legal options on this child support order? I have paid every week for the past 16 years on time and have no arrears. Thank you.

The original court order is from Mass, so, the order will continue until there is another order to modify it. You can file and request a modification, you could have done that at any time.

I expect that your legal options are ... to keep paying according to the terms of the original order. Only a lawyer who knows your details can say for sure. I have read that if either parent still lives in Massachusetts, then Massachusetts has jurisdiction.
Even if both of you move out of Massachusetts, a new court would be reluctant to change the support order.

If your kid is a FULL TIME COLLEGE STUDENT then you keep paying but if they aren't going to college full time or at all then you don't have to pay squat. I suggest you try to find out what is going on with your kid since they are legally an adult and have been for over a year.
Now what is YOUR excuse for not being in touch with your kid???? Do you NOT talk to them on the phone or anything???

At 19 NEITHER parent has custody. Unless the son is a full time student, child support normally ends at 18. In any case, even if the terms of the support order are BLATANTLY violated, the order remains in force until the COURT says otherwise.
Note: The state of residence is IRRELEVANT. The court that issued the support order RETAINS jurisdiction until both that court AND the court assuming jurisdiction agree otherwise.

Ask your lawyer. The legal advice you get here is worth exactly what you pay for it.

Your child is 19 years old. Your child is now a adult. Are Americans considered children until they are 18 or 21?In my country people learn to grow up at 16.
