Why do I keep caring about what people say about me and where I'm brought up, and how can I stop caring?
I am a 15-year-old white girl born and raised in California. I haven't traveled a lot, I'm not into politics, I don't know a lot of culture outside my country, and I don't know the Metric system. Basically I'm unsophisticated and inexperienced.
Because I don't know about these things, I get constantly bashed for it from people who aren't brought up here, typically (from my experience) people from the European region. I used to be a part of this WhatsApp group (I left it) filled with people who weren't from here. I get called ignorant and dumb because I don't know these things, and how my country is backwards and should have stayed with Great Britain (that's a popular comeback). They bash the Imperial System, our IQ scores, our bodies, etc. If I dare vent about anything at all, I get called self-absorbed.
For example, I'll say that it's hot outside. A person will ask what the temp is, I'll say the degrees in Fahrenheit. They'll first say "Learn the Metric system," and then "Be grateful that you get that heat at all you Yank," or "You know nothing of true heat."
I can tell that there are more people on Earth than me, that go through worse things than me. I never said or meant to imply that no one has experienced this. I simply say that it's hot outside and get absolutely shot. I am not looking for pity, and I recognize that I'm inexperienced.
People say to stop caring, but that's harder than it sounds. I'm a person who takes everything going in my head into consideration.

Remember this always....HURT PEOPLE, HURT PEOPLE. When people answer you like that no matter what you say, it sounds as if they are just miserable and want some company. If someone is not kind to you, and does not display qualities you like, then why would you respect or look at what they are saying continually, especially in a specific area? Secondly, use it as a chance to bone up on intelligence in those areas you feel are lacking. I know how
addictive the internet can be, but you can also find educational sites and make sure you learn at least one new thing a day, then two a day and so on. You will be knocking them facts down to folks in no time.

If you are fifteen and do not know metric measurements you must go to a very poor school. The USA and Liberia are the only countries in the world that still use Fahrenheit. My country, Australia, changed to the metric system between 40 and 50 years ago, it is time the USA caught up with the 21st century.

Somebody has been trolling you. Most people use both metric and imperial interchangably. For example, in the UK, hash and weed are sold in fractions of an ounce, but speed and coke are sold by the gram. The internet is not real most people on it are 12.
