Best first car under 4K?

I'm off to university next year and I need a car, I have about 3K saved up in total

I was looking at an 05-08 Subaru impreza, and I REALLY liked the Toyota Celica

I want a some what sporty car, reliable (no euro cars they're expensive to maintain) and CHEAP ON GAS (no premium gas either). Celica gives me all those?

So I guess what I'm asking is, thoughts on the celica (has a 1jz engine, same as a corolla)? Any recommendations? Please don't recommend a civic :(

Anything would would help!!!

Thanks in advance :):)

Andraž is wrong, Japanese cars are high quality.

The Subaru Impreza and Toyota Celica are both good choices. However, the Celica gets better gas mileage as the Impreza comes with AWD. But, if you need AWD, I'd get the Impreza.

About that Mercedes-Benz C-Class answer-yes, those cars are high quality, but they cost A LOT more to fix than Japanese cars.

the celica would be a decent car but i would also consider these

    pontiac grand am gt

olds alero (same car as grand am)

    chevy beretta or monte carlo

mercury cougar xr-7 or t-bird just like a bigger version of mustang

ford escort zx2 fun cars to drive.

Go with the Celica. We bought a 2000 with 158,000 miles for my son to commute to college. It still ran perfectly.

Ive found mercedes c classes 1st and 2nd gen for under 3k € in perfect condition. Leave japanese cars, they are overrated, get german horses that are known for its qualitiy instead
