Why is it that some players are overhyped because a few great moments rather than consistent performances?

I mean Drogba has only ever had two seasons out of his eight at Chelsea where he scored more than 16 goals, while Giroud has scored more than 16 in 2/2 seasons for Arsenal. Yet Drogba is a Chelsea legend and Giroud is a "donkey". The only thing Drogba was ever consistent in was scoring in League cup and FA Cup finals....... which apparently are worthless anyways. Ok he played well against Munich too in 2012, but that's just one game.

Another example, Eric Cantona, he was so so inconsistent and didn't have a very good scoring record and yet a few FA Cup finals and the odd wonder-goal against a rubbish team like Sunderland meant that he's achieved legendary status at Man United.

Steven Gerrard is another, his career is based on his goal vs Olympiacos, his performances vs Milan in Istanbul, the goal vs West Ham in 2006 and then a few good games vs Everton and Man United.

Whereas someone like Lampard has been a consistent performer and top goalscorer for the best part of a decade and always performs in big games.

I mean if Cantona, Drogba and Gerrard are classed as PL Legends, then it doesn't say that much for the premier league sadly.

Rather odd question. When you hear the name Giroud along with players like Cantona,Drogba and Gerrard., who may not be as great as Zidane but still great players and miles ahead of Giroud.

Does Giroud inspire anyone?? Does a young player say that he wants to become the next Giroud?? Nope.

Cantona was rubbish, he gave the ball away all the time.

Drogba's goal record speaks for itself... he had no skill.

Most of Gerrard's goals are penalties. LOL

Same with Oscar and Hazard, both are very very inconsistent players but when they do well they are raved about. Yet when Juan Mata and Sturridge were at Chelsea performing good every single week, they were surplus to requirements.

But Gerrard was far better than Lampard, if you have been watching football for many years you should know this. Gerrard could tackle, track back, defend, score from distance consistently, and take over big matches. Lampard just stole goals like a jew. Gerrard was MOTM in a UCL final and FA cup final in the span of 2 years.

    What did I just read.

Drogba is one of the best players of all time. Just because he didn't score more than 16 goals every season it doesn't mean giroud is better. He won us the Champions league, highest goal scorer at wembley, In 2007 he scored 33 goals and in 2010 he scored 37. Giroud is a pile of w*nk and arsenal fans are so f*cking deluded. Giroud will never be better than drogba let alone f*cking FERNANDO TORRES. Yes you heard me, FERNANDO TORRES. Giroud wouldn't even be in the top 100 maybe top 1000 but even that is pushing it.

    2005 - Scored 16 Goals

    2006 - Scored 16 Goals

    2007- Scored 33 Goals

    2008 - Scored 15 Goals

    2009 - Scored 14 Goals

2010 - Scored 37 Goals (Won golden boot)

    2011 - Scored 13 Goals

    2012 - Scored 13 Goals

<-- If Giroud produces that many goals consistently over that length of time I'll eat my hat. Giroud will NEVER win the golden boot.

It's not just the number of goals he's scored it's the MOMENTS when he scores the goals. Equalized for us in the CL, scored the winning PK for us in the CL. And overall highest goal scorer in Wembley and has scored 10 goals in 10 finals. That's the kind of player that can put a team on his back. Your having a SERIOUS laugh if you think Giroud is good enough to wipe Drogba's *ss.

"donkey" is a more prestigious title than "chelsea legend" tbh
