Historical Paranormal related question: binding of witches' spirits in the 1800s in North America?

I am looking for historical information regarding how a convicted witch would have had his/her spirit bound in the 1800s (specifically in North America).

Are there any particular items that would have been used? Prayers / curses?

Or any myths at the time connected to the binding of the witches' spirit?

I want to be clear: I am NOT looking to bind any spirits, this is strictly research regarding some projects I am working on.

Please site your source.

Thank you

Well, since nobody has answered this and it's been awhile, I'll go ahead and bite.

The problem I see here is two different terms that came about centuries apart. In North America, *convicted witches* were pretty much done with by the 1800's. Maybe a few stragglers, but basically you're looking at the 1700's latest, and mostly several centuries before that.

As far as *binding spirits* goes, that term came about in the late 1900's (my guess would be in the 1970's). This term is used extensively today by Christians/Catholics and Wiccan/Witchcraft, but not used at all in the 1800's or before. During the witch hunting centuries, they didn't report casting out spirits (as Jesus did) much less binding them (which Jesus didn't do).

There's only two things I could suggest you may want to look at, because both deal with the idea of demons:

Some Catholics will say the Rosary is a chain that binds evil spirits. The Rosary has been around for centuries, so you may want to look at that. How long that saying has been around though is anyone's guess.

You also might want to look at demonology. It's got a history and may give you a clue as to what binding spirits might have been called back in those days or if anything similar might have been used. I highly doubt it as I don't think beliefs were the same back then, but those are the only suggestions I have.

Sorry, no myths, no sources, but Good Luck!

Do not believe these tales, witches do not have the spirit bound, if anything, their soul is in the dimension of the spiritual world, suitable for all the souls of the dead! OK!
