Depends on where you intend to travel to or work in first. Across the world Spanish is certainly in wider use than German. In central Europe German would be more useful. They are very different in vocabulary, grammar, and usage. If you already know French or Italian then Spanish might be easier than German to learn.

German is easier because English is a Germanic language. If you speak any other romance languages such as french or Italian then Spanish should be as as well since they all share Latin roots. Spanish and German are nothing alike so it depends on whether or not you plan on traveling in the near future and need to know one of these languages.

It is quite possible to learn some of several languages in a short time. However if you want to become really good it will take at least 10 years to the rest of your life.It is kind of a toss up which is easier to learn for an English speaker.Spanish and English share a lot of words derived from Latin which German does not have.Example ;Telephone, teléfono, fernsprecher.English is said to be a Germanic language but the vocabulary and grammat is very different as well as pronunciation.

If you know only English, than German, it it will be much more easier for you.

In case you want to learn more popular language, than take Spanish.

Spanish because it is gonna be easier to you to learn it and if you travel it is going to help you a lot (of course except if you go to Germany or any another) but with SPanish you can visit 29 countries where their Spanish is their first language. You can find a lot of natives in US so you can practice with them or in some groups on facebook. :D
