Why do parents think they're always right?

So we were talking about the recent Syrian chemical weapon use. I am not for military action in the state, by the way.

My father said that there is no reason to play "policeman" and go to Syria and get into their business.

I said the reason is that since the use of chemical weapons violated international law of the United Nations, letting it go would set an example that it's okay to use chemical weapons for other countries. So since the US is the top contributor to the UN, they would rely on us to settle the issue. We contribute almost double the amount as the next top contributor and the same as like the bottom 150 countries.

He got mad at this and said I didn't know what I was talking about because he is older and smarter than me and has life experience.

Parents always seem to think that they are right because they older and feel they have more knowledge than their children.

your father might have been stressed, causing him to react that way.

BUT... parents are people too, so sometimes they'll use things against you, including their authority or in this case their age. i guess the reason you say they always think they're right is because they can easily show it by giving you a remark like "I'm smarter and older than you" every time you always show any resistance at all during an argument. before we started going to therapy, my dad often beat me if i argued with him. its much better now. the reason im saying that is because maybe you need to talk to him, because therapy worked for us. maybe you just need to work things out with him. that doesent mean automatically saying the last wrong thing he did to you at the start.

  • Get back to us when you start paying taxes and see all your money go to middle eastern country's who hate our guts or low life scumbags in this country sucking the government teat for there living, and about half of them illegal aliens, then when you get old enough to retire you can tell your children what happened to the US and why all the money you paid into social security and taxes is gone and you live in poverty. you'll most likely be a lot worse off than the 3rd world country's you spent your hard earned tax dollar on trying to protect and its people you let come to the US to suck the Teat.

Parents want to feel superior. They don't like being wrong haha. I'm sure he was embarrassed, because maybe he didn't know that, and you did :P
