Is it okay to go on a solo road trip right after getting my license?
I'm 18 but have been living abroad for the past few years so I haven't been able to get my license. I've been practicing driving for a while now and am doing an online course and then I have a week of classes on the road before I can get my license next month. I want to go visit a friend afterwards but it's a 2 hour drive on the interstate. I'm pretty comfortable driving on highways, but is it a bad idea to do this right after getting my license?

I must totally disagree with your other answers. What's your hurry? No matter how old you are or if you ace the written test or how confident you are in yourself ------ you are lacking experience. Please at least have an experienced driver with you.

If you know what you're doing and where exactly you are going, you are entitled to take yourself. Being summer time out now, drive defensively and accurately. The police are paying close attention to speeders. no seat belts, and impaired drivers. Don't get cocky out there and drive like a know it all. That takes time and lots of driving. Consideration for what other people are going to do around you is the key to safely driving a vehicle. Anyone can just steer one.
Source(s): I cringe at some drivers out there. I drive a semi ten hours a day all over North America. I could talk for a long time about what I've seen some drivers do. Some new and some not. - ?Lv 78 years ago
It's totally up to you. Being a legal adult with a full driver's license you can drive anywhere you wish. It all comes down to your comfort level of doing so.
