What are the differences between Dada and Postmodernism?

Dada was actually an anti-art movement. They found 'readymades' like a urinal and a bicycle wheel, and displayed them as artworks. They staged theatrical performances where the curtain would open and there would be a guy standing there reading a newspaper. They believed that the actual art was in the act of creation, and the result, the painting or sculpture, was sort of like a dead body, in fact they had 'exhibitions' where they -destroyed- artworks.

Postmodernism was also a new, unconventional way to look at art, but it depended on -deconstruction-, not -destruction-. 8^) It was a reaction to romanticism. And it was much more influential, even still today.

I don't see much difference either, except for dadaism and surrealism (let me add this one also) are just forms of art trying to challenge established styles and forms, while post - modernism is a state of being, a scientific term, which is widely used in social sciences and philosophy, it refers to society in general - not art. You could read Jean-François Lyotard to understand the idea of postmodernity better. But please don't... It is a stack of bullshit
