Writing equations of line math help PLEASE?
Write the equation of the line with a slope of -5 and a y-intercept of (0,3).
Write the equation of the line with a slope of -1/3 and passing through the point (6, -4).
Write the equation of the line passing through the points (0, -4) and (-2, 2).

We will write the equation of this line in Slope Intercept Form which is: y = mx + b
Remember from the above form: The 'm' refers to the slope, and the 'b' is the y intercept.
1) For the first question the slope (m) is -5 and the y-intercept (b) is 3.
So we write: y = -5x + 3
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) For the second question we're given the slope and a point to use. We will use Point Slope Form and re-arrange to Slope intercept.
Point Slope Form is : y - y1 = m(x - x1)
Here the x1 and y1 are the x and y coordinates given to you: x1 = 6, y1 = -4
Again the slope is given to you, so m = (-1/3)
Plugging those numbers in we have: y - (-4) = (-1/3)(x - 6)
Distribute the (-1/3) through the parenthesis and we now have: y + 4 = (-1/3)x + 2
Also, notice I changed the "- (-4)" to +4 (when you subtract negativity, you are making things positive)
Subtract 4 from both sides and combine like terms for the answer: y = (-1/3)x - 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) For the third question you already have a point (you have two points). So, we just need the slope.
To find the slope, use this equation: (y2-y1) / (x2-x1) -----> (2- (-4)) / (-2 - 0) -----> 6/-2 = -3
Now, you know m = -3, and you can choose either of the given points to use. From here just follow the steps from question 2.

form of a straight line
y = mx + b
m = slope
b = y-intercept
1.
y = -5x + 3
2.
y = (-1 / 3)x + b
to find b use
(x = 6, y = -4)
-4 = (-1 / 3)*6 + b
or
b = -2
the line is thus
y = (-1 / 3)x - 2
3.
y - intercept is -4
y = mx - 4
to find m use
(2 - (-4)) / (-2 - 0) or
m = -3
the line is thus
y = -3x - 4

ok, with 2 factors you will get the slope. you have the factors: (4,-5) and (2,0) --- this is the x-intercept, the place y is often 0 slope is upward thrust over run your upward thrust from (2,0) to (4,-5) is -5 the run is two ok. next. This one works out particularly precise. With that slope, going the comparable run interior the different path (left), places you at y=0; the y-intercept. the upward thrust of -5 in 2 is the comparable as 5 in -2. So your y-intercept is 5. remember y=mx+b m is the slope and b is the y-intercept. Chek your text fabric to examine that. m = -5/2 (slope) b = 5 (y-intercept) your answer is --------------- y = -5/2x + 5 comments: i'm sorry which you have been given such diverse differing responses. take a glance on your text fabric. in case you have the time, you may examine throught the training interior the financial ruin you're engaged on. My 14 year previous son and 13 year previous daughter are doing the comparable stuff, stunning now. i'm 37. I checked in my son's text fabric beek to get the respond I gave you. have been given 3 a million/2 years of faculty below my belt. Math is my proper subject. believe me in this, please.
